75918, F**ked up A/C system ... WTF. Posted by gilee_8, Jun-10-04 04:43 PM
Ok guys. as you saw the post before. I recharged my A/C system today.
So just a while ago (at 9:30PM) I go out for a ride to try it out. MY AC is fucking stupid.
The thing is this. whenever I am driving to 70MPH, 45MPH, 20MPH, or 0MPH, as long as my RPM is at idle RPM which is 800-900RPM, my A/C will blow out DEEP FREEZE COLD AIR. like if I leave my hand at the vent, I will feel frozen after 30 sec. GOOD! But WHENEVER I put in gear or the clutch which means the RPM go higher, the A/C is WARM or not warm, but not cold anymore. WTF. I know that it will shut off A/C if I pull hard coz it gives more Horsepower. but this is stupid. even going at 15MPH and the A/C is warm.
The light still stay on. I put it to coldest and highest fan speed.
Please help someone!!! Thanks all. Gil

On my subie this happened and it turned out the a/c clutch died in the compressor. Same for 2g's?

sorry buddy but it sounds like you over charged your system. you have to read your pressures prior to just adding freon into it, you probably did not need as much in the beginning. maybe 1 lb if you were maybe less than 21-22psi of pressure on the low side. but it just sounds like you put too much. they only way i can tell if you post your pressures now. i'm ASE certified on A/C btw so i know what i'm saying.

OK, so if it is really over charged, which I dont know yet...
Will it get fucked? I mean, can I release some of the freon back out and it will be fine? I only drove it for about 30 minutes, and no more then 20 miles.
So? And also, please give me some directions on how I can test the PSI? where can I get the equipments?
THanks alot Gil

no your A/C is fine you just have to dump out some of it and get it back to normal pressures, BUT you can't dump it without using a special recovery machine that costs like $3000. so the only thing i can tell you is take it to a specialist that knows what they're doing meaning ASE certified, and have them check it for you. it's kinda hard to explain it 'cause it's not really that easy to do without someone showing you. you need to have experience using this equipment so all i can say is take it to an expert.

Was your AC system or lines disconnected for any reason? Did you open up the system anywhere? If you did, then you HAVE to have the entire system put under a vacuum by a special machine. This gets rid of any air and moisture in the system, and it has to be done before adding any refridgerant. If the system got low on refridgerant, then that means you have a leak, which means you need to get it fixed. Take it to a certified mechanic that has the proper equipment.

75931, RE: F**ked up A/C system ... WTF. Posted by gilee_8, Jun-10-04 07:03 PM
it was not open up at any way.
I just wnat to refill it or fill it up a little so it can be colder. Can i just push the nipple and release some of the freeon out? coz it is only using A304, it doesn't hurt anything.
Please help. I am so broke that I can't afford any money spend on fixing AC by an expert.
Also when you said 32PSI at low and 210PSI and high. is that when the car/AC is running or stopped?
Thanks all. I konw I sound stubborn, and that you said I should bring it to an expert, but truely, I have no $$$. can I release the pressure in anyway? Thanks. again. Gil

The only way you can read the pressure is with a set of A/C gauges. you cant read with a regular gauge. You can physically let freon out of the system. the Fact that it uses R-134 does not make it ozone/EPA safe to release it into the atmosphere. Any certified Mechanic will not tell you to release it like that. I am not certified is A/C because i left the trade and i am not telling you to do it either but its your call. Keep one thing in mind.....let too much out and it wont work right and the safety switch may not turn on your compressor!. A/C systems should be filled with gauges.....not the cheap moron bottles (no offense to you) they sell at autozone. They work most of the time but there is no accuracy to the instructions on the can. I hope this answers your question a little bit.

OK, if I do really release some of the pressure of the AC system, how? Do I push the Low pressure side to release the freeon? or the high pressure side to release freeon?
Thanks! Gil

If your AC was not cold enough, then there was a reason for it. If its low on freon, then there is a leak, wich takes special dyes and equipment to find it. If your condensor(radiator thing in front of the coolant radiator) fins are plugged with crap, that can cause bad airflow through the condensor and it wont get the air that cold. I would have checked that the very first thing. Just dont go adding a bunch of freon or letting some out. You HAVE to use special R-134A refridgerant gauges to tell you the high and low side pressures, or else you are not going to be able to make the system work as it was intended. The only thing those Autozone refill bottles are good for is if you just happened to purge a bit of freon out, and just need to add a bit more. You never use those to refill an opened up system, or just to add more in becuase its not cold enough.
I have a set of R-134A gagues, but thats because I was a Refridgeration technician for a year or so, and went to school for that shit..I'm telling you, you will fuck up your compressor and your system if you dont just go to a certified mechanic with the proper tools and know how.

Hey XtremeGS, I totally understand your point. And I greatly appreciated your concern too. I don' twant to mess up my car as well, but then at the other side, I have no $$$. and the only solution to fix this is by my self. I really apprecaited your opinion.
But for now, read my other post, I got the guage (only for low side) just please, give me some ideas.. your knowledge... your understand on the A/C... please!
Thanks all. Gil

No, i don't think you do understand my point..You NEED a set of R-134A gauges to set your pressures correctly!!! Oh yeah, and check your condensor..its prob caked with a bunch of crap/bugs whatever..probalby the problem in the first place. Be sure your passenger side fan comes on too when the ac is on

when you say a SET? I can't just so one gauge on the low pressure side and see if it stay at 32PSI?
THe fan does come on, but I will go out and check out the crap and see if I can clean them all out ok.
Please... I mean... the best way is your way of doing it.. but is there another option I can choose to do? Please, let me know. I know it will not be as good as the professional way...but I just want it to work again.
Thanks!
Gil
P.S. I know I might sound stubborn, but when you have no money, you just can't do shit. please help.

If you can't afford to fix it right, you shouldn't mess with it at all. A SET of AC gauges is several lines attached to several gauges ina block. You connect it to both the high pressure and low pressure sides and it has a feed that will connect to a R134a can for filling. If you don't have one, you can't do it right.
I agree with the above - i think you've probably got a bunk AC compressor clutch.

I am replying... i AGREE with what EVERYONE has stated above numerous times!!! you can't fix it yourself without the proper gear. Like Darkone said... if you cant afford to fix it then live without it till you can... dont go and mess with things that are above your ability.
