75793, Alternate cause to white smoke out of exhaust?
Posted by davo345, Jun-08-04 11:06 AM
The truth is, I am not at all convinced my HG is blown. Compression is still there, radiator is not low on coolant, no water in the oil, and no oil in the overflow tank.

The only things which are symptoms is the whitish smoke every now and then at higher RPMs and the fact that the overflow tank is a bit low (it's right above the minimum level).

Other than that, I am not convinced it is, so could someone please either convince me that it is indeed my HG, or could you give me an alternate scenario to this.

Thanks :).

Drive it and save money until it does go.

I would do that, but if it is indeed on the outs, I wanna replace it because I would like it to last a 3 hour drive to the beach and a week of driving after that later in July :). I don't wanna get stuck over there or on the side of the road.

Yeah, she smokes while she is cold, then it goes away.

The smoke I am talking about is only present in the upper RPMs on the highway, usually when downshifting on an exit ramp, and it's not billowing smoke either, it sort of funnels out breifly for like a second or two. But other than the smoke, and the relatively low coolant resirvior level, there's no other symptoms.:shrug

You probably just get water in the exaust when you wash the car... It's throwing out the smoke when you get it real hot and the water evaporates.

But I haven't washed the car in quite a while. It sits for weeks at a time outside when only in some weeks does it get a simple startup to OT.
