This has obviously been an idea I've been thinking of b/c of some interesting circumstances I've been thrown into: Roommate of mine, willing to trade a cat-back HKS exhaust for my help in building a deck at our house (Working here in San Diego for the summer by the way doing some Construction Management). Only thing, I have: 97 NT, and exhaust is off a 1g Tsi. Question here I guess then is trying to figure out how much work it would require to modify this thing to fit my car. I figure any differences in change in direction can easily be dealt with a bit of cutting and welding. Same goes for correctly positioning any hangers. However, will the mounting flange to Cat be the same dimensions for turbo/nt? A lot of great shops down here in SoCal so I figure even if I have to spend a couple hundred its more than worth it as long as I get a real good shop to hook me up. Once again though, just want to get some feedback from you guys and see just how feasible and realistic of an idea this is. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Please let me know of any issues I may have just looked over. Thanks.

Those are two different cars totally almost. IMO you would be better off just cutting the muffler off and welding your own pipes (your choice of size. Just seems like to much work to try and work with the stuff you have, but thats just IMO. Seems like your going to be doing a lot of work a building that deck, doesnt seem like a fair trade. now if it was a complete bolt on, then yea its decent, but then again thats just IMO.

yup, its very different. im sure the piping is shorter on the 1g, the bends wont be the same, and the 1g's exhaust exited on the passenger side, unlike the 2g which exits drivers side. just cut off the muffler like ^ suggested and weld it onto your axle back

personally, i would sell the 1g catback and use the extra cash to buy a catback that is for your car. =)

Thanks for the help guys....Got to look at the exhaust and my car and def. will probably be a bit too much work. I'm kinda tempted to just make my own cat-back pipping, friend here has a shop I could use, and then weld on the rear muffler section. I've got some experience with this so shouldn't be too bad. Or, will probably just get the LL to take some damn rent off and use the money to get myself a nice cat back. I dont know, we'll see, but thanks for the help guys.
