Hey guys I could use some help.

I got my timing belt replaced a few months back and there were no probelms. But the last couple weeks whenever I turn my car on while its idle theres this squeeking sound that just keeps repeating.

I popped the hood and it sounds like its coming from the lower left corner by the belts behind the head light. When I rev or am runnign theres no squeeking only when idle and when I turn the car off you hear like one kinda long squeek when the engine shuts off. Sounds like something died.

you probably just need to tighten the accessory belts. ie power steering belt and alternator belt.

you can try just spraying some belt dressing on them and seeing if the squeaking goes away, if so you just need to tighten them up.
the alternator beltt you need to loosen the one bolt on the pass side of the alternator and turn the other bolt closest to the firewall and for the powersteering belt you need to loosen the nut on the tensioner under the coolant neck and tighten the bolt .

if its not the belts it could be one of the pulleys, you can spray wd40 on the bearings to see if the noise goes away, if so replace the pulley, there is a post with just the bearing part number around here if you search for "pulley bearing" or something like that

yeah it sounds like its coming from the pulley, any special place i should spray because i dont want to get any on the belts.

from experience:

ive never heard of an alternator belt squeeking.
i rarely ever hear of a pully going bad and squeeking (except the tensioner, which just tends to throw the belts, lol).

im 99% confidant that your accesory belt is loose. tighten that up first before you start spraying lubricants on everything...they are difficult to get off and can make the problem worse. do a search for instructions, the steps mustve been posted at least 20 times.

I really really hate asking haha but Ive been searching for a while and cant find out steps on how to tighten my accesory belt. Could you set up a link or tell me thanks guys i really appreicate the help

do an advanced search for "how tighten belt" or somthing like that (remember to check "and" instead of "or" underneath the search terms).

basically, you will need to loosen the tensioner bolt that runs perpendicular to the length of the car. this will "free up" the tensioner to move. next tighten it using the bolt located on the front of the tensioner, the one that runs parallel with the length of the car. after youve tightened it a couple of turns, re-tighten the first bolt and fire up the car. the squeeking should be gone.

the tensioner is located right below the p/s pump behind the passengers side headlight. you may find it healpful to disconnect the fan harness (black and blue wires if i remember correctly) to allow the ratchet to extend more.

do i need to take my passenger side front wheel off or anything

nope its REALLY easy, lol. look right behind the passengers side headlight. the thing on the top is the p/s pimp. right below that is a small pully, thats the tensioner. i believe you need a 12mm ratchet (or wrench) for the two bolts.

I kinda have the same thing at times.....this might sound weird but get a piece of chalk and with the car on put the piece of chalk up to the edge of the power steering belt.....if its the same problem it should fix u right up....

^^interesting..do you think it acts as a solid lubricant (like graphite)? i could see that being usefull if the edge of the belt was rubbing, but that seems like the belt might be OVER tightened, as its causing the pullies to buckle and put more strain on the outer edge of the belt. care to explain more about this? im interested to know!

im having the exact same problem right now......mechanic did my timing belt.... 3 weeks later horrible screeching, thought it was my timing belt, ended up its the alternator.... brang it back to him and he tightned it (which was today), come home starts screechng again..... so what could it be? i know he's tightening it properly, he's a mechanic.....any other suggestions????
