speacial thanks to sonnybk and remy for coming through !! funniest shit was accidentally starting my car with the t/b off ..... no throttle plate ... no stopping the engine baby ... that part was hilarious and stupid on my part !! but it was a good laugh .. ill post tommorow with any results or differences

is there anything i should look out for ?

Should have gone to autozone and got a sheet of paper gasket maker. Just trace out your TB and cut it out. RTV isn't good to put down for your TB gasket. I tried it, it sucked. And if you're unlucky some of the shit that squishes to the middle will get sucked into your engine. Not happy times, imo.

Good info on the RTV TB gasket imo. I've got a shitty idle that hangs at 2000rpm until I stop and it's getting fixed this weekend one way or the other. Even if I have to trade the bitch in on an EVO. :P (Just kidding - I could do so now, but I love Daisy)

I used a Dremel and ported/polished my TB. Took out the hump there and opened it up just slightly all around without touching the butterfly. I'd say it gave me awesome gains, but I also installed a UDP, header, high-cr bottom end and port matched my intake runners to the head at the same time. So I dunno. :P

well the intake is off and i didnt see any getting down into the actual t/b but there is no way to tell about the idle area though good points guys

dr ive got the cold air 55mm t/b udp and 2.5 n1 thats it for now .. but headers and the exile high flow is on next

i hand ported my tb too :) fucked up my idle a little but i took it off and fixed it. thank the lord for the micrometer :thumbsup

what kindo problems am i looking at here .... i was told i might idle a little higher now cause of it ...

I used rtv sealant on my throttle body and it worked amazingly since the gasket I put on apparently was a p.o.s my idle hung around 2000rpm but once I used rtv it was fine. Im gunna port mine out a little more...on the bolt that has the star thread at the end of it does that one come out easy? I never actually got my ENTIRE throttle body out of the car....it was stuck by that so I just dremeld a little and cleand profusely(sp)...

I used RTV blue on my Modern Performance 60mm TB and it worked just fine. no worries and you can open the butterfly and check to make sure none gets into the intake mani. MUCH better than that crappy paper gasket they give out with it.

i believe that star bolt that's tough to get out can just unclip from the plug it's holding. mine did at least, much easier to extract with a vise and good pliers. think it's a 10 mm now.

Woa, you can use a dremel to port your own TB? What type of bit do you use to do it with? If it isnt that difficult, i sure know what im doing this weekend... And the idle is fine after doing this if you use RVT gasket sealer when you install it back?

Thats what i used to port and gasket match my intake mani and my previous TB... I bought it since they are located here in Denver and it works really well.

I got lucky though and they sold it to me for the standard porting kit price of 21.99

The guy that did all the porting work at our shop used carbide tips, at least I know he did on iron, anywho, is anyone doing this with the Jeep TB, or is that even worth the hassle. Im NA right now :shrug , which would make a diff over you turbo guys.

ok .. well i started it up and intially things seemed great ... until i noticed she was idling at close to 1800 rpms while cold and i had a cel... than when she reached operating temp it stayed level at 1600 while in park ... so i took it for a quick test drive ... i didnt like it and so i went home and rebooted the ecu ... same problem but the cel disappeared for a spell but returned another thing i didnt like was that my trans didnt know what the hell to do when i came to a stop ...it would stay in second until i got close to a comeplete stop and right before i stopped it shifted to first but it seemed reluctant to do so ... poor things confused .... so a vacuum issue it is ... and so tonight i will resolve that by buying a paper one like requested .... good call guys btw !! i did notice some gain with the t/b but i honestly cant tell if its the high idle cause she is pullin out the whole nicely !! lol

i also noticed that the manifold itself is a smig dirty ... would spraying gumout in there be a bad thing?

Gumout won't do shit, get that Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner shit. That works wonders.

And yeah, you have a bad vac leak somewhere. Make sure all your shit is plugged in right too, because a TB shouldn't effect your tranny or give you any kind of CEL.

and its not directly affecting my tranny but the tranny thinks im still hitting the gas lightly like im cruising so it naturally will go into second gear .. but the thing is its still at the same rpm when i come to a stop and than it tcu realises im stopping and shifts while im already stopped ... horrible... fucking autos

done and doooooooooooooone ... paper gaskets on took all but 30 mintues to take off cut and reinstall ..... after a reboot i started it up and no problems... 950 idle now ... much better than 1800 ... now on to the feel of it

the car feels noticebly quicker ... it seems to get up and go a little quicker also ... meaning in the rpm range the power band seems a little sooner ... tq is improved also .. nice results on par with the udp or cold air

Good to hear man, congrats on the install. What T/B did you use? Was it the stock ported? Jeep T/B deal? Or was it one of those 60mm aftermarket bastards? Get some numbers so we can make a comparison on performance :thumbsup

it was a ported stocker and when i hit the track we will compare and contrast

yeh I ported mine its a major PITA, I did the intake manifold while I was at it also. hard to do that too it wants to turn out an oval. I had that die grinder working over time.

for what its worth I think actual boring is worth it than dicking around with hand porting a TB. Plus with boring they have to change the throttle plate which is something you can't really do if you port it yourself.

Has anyone done the Jeep one, is it worth the hassle? The only reason I ask is cause the junkyard down the street from me has no Eclipse's :cry , but it has about 50 jeep Cherokee's.

I did the jeep one and ported it to 60mm all the way through as it explains in the writeup... bang for buck man its a good deal!!! if you got a dremel, a bit of patients and metal jims writeup you're set

i currently have a jeep throttle body. overall, i enjoy it. it does have a tendency to whistle at certain rpms, i think it may have a rough edge? but other than that i can notice the quicker engine response. it brings a lot of attention to the car as people think it is turbo. i picked up all the pieces needed from O'reillys and autozone for under ten bucks as well as the jeep tb for $25. took a grand total of an hour to an hour and a half. definitely worth the green!

Spelling lessons imo. Any larger TB will give you zippier throttle response, but the gains from a 60mm TB are best seen when you have a turbo ramming copious amounts of air past the plate.

Considering this is a 420a-powered car, yes. A 4g63 TB won't work BTW and the Jeep is the 60mm (or so) from the 4.0L I6 Jeeps and it requires modifications you will need to use the search to find.

Throttle body gasket. If you're cheap like the rest of us, you can buy a sheet of paper gasket maker (or cork) and then trace, cut and make your own gasket. You will even have left over material in case you screw up the first one.

That's okay, just at least demonstrate that you at least tried to find the answer with the search before derailing a specific thread with questions about the basics. There are dozens of threads about TB in here and a serach would have most of the answers with a lot less sarcasm than you got right here imo.
