Im buying cams for my car want your opinion on what cam gears i should buy. want to buy the best ones for our cars. I now there has been problems with some of them not staying set because for the bolts. Please help ASAP!!

From what I have heard, the best ones out there are the Fidanza or Crane gears. I don’t know anything about the Unorthodox gears.

Good luck getting the Crane gears for the 2.0, AFAIK they are on backorder just about everywhere you look.

I hear that the AEM gears work decently, however they have only 3 bolts that hold them in the correct time. I bought a set of these recently due to their availability. I plan on using blue Loctite and the recommended torque so there is a minimal chance of the bolts backing out resulting in 20 degrees of retard, which would probably break valves.

Yeah Nate, especially with the cams you are running it will.

I suggest red locktite on the bolts going into the back section of the gear to hold those tight and then tighten the nut down. The red locktite should hold the bolt enough to tighten the nuts good.

I used red locktite on my Fidanza's and haven't had any slippage, but I also have 5 bolts.

Crane's are on factory backorder from Crane, so you have to find somebody who still has them in stock.

Unorthodox are good cam gears, but also expensive.

AEM are fine, and many run them without issue, I just prefer more bolts holding the gears in place than 3.

At the moment those are the options...

I used the 3 bolt AEM and never had a problem with any slippage whatsoever. When I first got them I checked them regularly, and began to check them less and less because there was no change. Eventually, I'd never mess with them unless playing with cam timing.
