my friend has a universal ground wire kit im gona get off him, it has a metal piece that you hook the wires to then they branch off, whats the best spots on these motors to ground? the battery, alternator,what else? also where should i put the metal piece that all the wires hook up to?

Don't pay more than $30 for that thing imo. They're not worth any more than that. Uber and I are no longer making these things, so if you want to get a cheap kit that you can modify ;) and have a better kit than any overpriced universal c'mon, talk to JWoodley.

IMO the ground wire kits with 1 main distribution block are pointless, dont waste your time, no gains will come from it.
Now a nicely designed daisy chained ground kit similar to the jwoodley kit is a much better buy.

I agree. I'd also suspect that with a universal style kit you would have some wires that are at their limit when terminated, and others which are too long and have a lot of slack in them. Sloppy install imo.

J's kits are semi-daisy-chained imo. While I will say that his kits are decent, they still introduce ground loop potential, which is not a good thing.

As to the original question by the no0b, the best way to ground out your engine bay is to run a lead from your alternator to the throttle cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Then run another lead from the head to the block (by the starter imo) to the negative battery terminal. Then just replace the OEM ground strap with more the same wire used to make the kit and you're golden. You do want to have all the leads come together to the one location, but I wouldn't be surprised if a kit from eBay had a plastic central plate to ground to. LOL
