7518, Caravan Throttle Body Posted by Talon95Stang, Nov-18-01 04:54 PM
I heard that we can use a throttle body off of a dodge caravan. I just need to know the following questions:
-I heard we can use 3.3L or 3.8L, is this true?
-What year can we use?
-Are they all 60mm?
-How hard is it to modify it and make it work?

My neighbor had an extra TB from an older 3.0 caravan. It'll mount up, but the TB from that engine is smaller. The ISC is the same though

Someone with an extra stock TB needs to go to a junkyard and find a bunch of caravans and jeeps and look at the TB's. See if the bolt holes match up, the TPS and IAC wiring will work and needs to be modded, and also see if the actual throttle linkage will all work. Then measure the inside to see for sure. My friend has an older caravan I think it's an 89. . .It has a TB on it that looks smaller than ours!

With some custom work it can be done, but the other problem I see is that our stock manifold does not really flow enough for more than a 55mm TB, which matches with it nicely. If you want to go larger, you should look into porting your intake manifold as well to get more benefit. Also, for a mild setup I wonder how beneficial it would be to go larger than 55mm as well. You might give up some low end in the process. This is just thought. We would not know for sure until someone tried.

Yeah you will have to port out the inlet on the manifold at a bare minimum, and that's if it will bolt up.

I'm trying to call some junk yards, but I need some Year, Make and Model!! I looked on the net and found that older caravan TB's are only 52mm! but the Jeep is 60mm, but I cant put a year or model on it!! I say a pic of a 4.0L Jeep and the one I say looks like it wont fit! It had 4 bolts to mount and the throttle cable looks like it won't mount either! Can anyone find out and Car that would be close!

I know for sure that the throttle linkage is slightly different. The caravans have a two cable setup instead of one like us. The ISC is the same, I swapped it into my car. The TPS is connector is different. This is all info off of a 3.0 liter V6. MY neighbor had a Chiltons or Haynes that showed pics of the newer TB and they are similar.

I think it was 93-96 3.3 or 3.8 L that was the closest fit. At least thats what I read on WWW.ASOG.NET

I think the engines were 3.3L and 3.6L our caravan has a 3.3L, next time I do something to it, I'll take a look and see what I can see on it.

Well murix, isn't Bill's car running a 70mm tb? With a stock manifold? That's what Ray was telling me last time I talked to him. Dunno if this is accurate though.

Last I remember he was running the 55mm AFX.
