75121, Overheating issue at idle...
Posted by talonguy2005, May-25-04 05:31 PM
I now have some kind of weird problem after my car has been idling at normal temp for about 5 mins. After it warms up, and sits there, the fan will turn on and the temp needle will go up past 1/2 the way to max, and the fan will just keep running. And I do notice after I have been driving my engine gets really hot. But just so you know my coolany is full, with a 50/50 mixture, and the water pump is somewhat new, and I dont have any coolant leaks. So I really need help figuring this out.

Since these two things are the simplest things to replace, not to mention cheap, get a new thermostat and pressure cap..see if that helps

Yeah sounds like it is the thermosthat, they break and get stuck partally closed. WHile you drive the air around the engine is cooling it but when you stop they get a bit warm.

hey, guess what, I changed my thermostat today, and my engine still overheats at idle, any other ideas??? Also, i have a vacum leak, which is pretty loud on the driver side, somewhere above the tranny, but I dont think that would cause it, but i still cant find the damn leak. But someone please help me!

remove it, take it to a shop and have it cleaned and pressure tested. should cost like 60 bucks or something.

Ok if anyone has been through this problem it is ME....

Check out my post

Now we could have different problems, I have a turbo mani that gets about 1200 deg at idle, the shit gets HOT, and all kinds of other stuff...But still, I should not have been over heating at idle...ill tell you what to do step by step one of these IS your problem.

1. Make *SURE* SURESURE there is NOTHING leaking ANYWHERE
2. Make sure both your fans are working...
3. Make sure your cap is not old and shitty- just replace it- it five bucks
4. Flush it, and do 70/30 mix of coolant water
5. Make sure you didn’t hit something in the radiator- (leak)- Take it to a shop and have is pressure cleaned, they will get the years of gunk and shit out of the radiator(this was PART of my problem)
6. Still over heating? Here’s my problems started
7. Do a leak down test- or a block test- see if your HG is bad(any white smoke out the exhaust?)(Coolant bubbling in overflow?)
8. No?
9. FINE! Well I was stubborn and finally took OFF my head- found I had a WARPED head and *2* cracks on the head, witch was the cause of my over heating...

Try all those, its one of those. I no it’ll good luck bro! I did this shit for over a month :wallbash

Im pretty sure I do have a bad head gasket, because If I let my car idle for about 10 mins, smoke will come out of my exhaust just from it sitting there, and then overheating. But I have never taken a head off a 420A before, anyone have a link on how to do it, or should i just use my haynes manual?
