anyone know off hand what belt size I would need to just run the A/C to the Crank pulley??? I am not dealing with powersteering anymore so I dont need the whole accesory belt. Just cant go without a/c here in florida. you're liable to sweat your balls off here during the day otherwise. TIA

well this is a first! i dont have my eclipse anymore for reference, but check one thing for me: can the tensioner even be used in a setup like this? you will need to have some way of tightening/loosening the belt, and i dont think there is enough travel in the stock tensioner to do this.

if it looks like there is enough travel, im guessing around a 38-42" belt should work. to run just the p/s to the harmonic damper is 40", so it should be in that range. if you are lucky, the guy behind the auto-parts counter will let you try out a few belts in the parking lot. get to know the belt system first though, im sure no-one would appreciate you taking 3 hours of fiddling in the parking lot to find the right belt, lol. you should be able to get one on and off in about 3-5 minutes.

Nah, you can't use the tensioner without the PS pump. So it will be hard to get it tight enough to stay on the crank pulley and the AC compressor. The best bet is going to be to get a piece of string and measure the belt you will need. You are going to need it to be tight, and it might not stay. If you can get a belt where you can get part of it on, you can then turn the AC pulley and it should pull the belt on.

I'm pretty sure that the steering system is lubricated by the power steering system. So, theoretically, if you disable the PS, you risk earlier wearing out of the steering system. I could be wrong though, I just came in from moving a good ton of old, unused forms and envelopes etc to the dumpster in this mid-90* heat. Ugh.

You are correct sir. If you do not want Power steering, it is highly recommended that you find a parts store that carries a manual rack & pinion for a 2GNT.
