I have been having a leak from the rear main seal on my 95 Talon ESi for a couple months, and I really need to fix it to save some money on oil, because I am planning on buying the Star Stage II kit in a little bit, so if anybody knows the easiest way to fix this problem, please tell me.

Either pull the trans or pull the engine. One of the two has to be removed. The choice is yours.

A pre-emptive reminder that you do not need the special tool to install the new seal (contrary to the FSM) and that you should make sure that you do not press the new seal in beyond flush or it will leak. ;)

Also, Michael you've got a PM since ERT is down (or was a few minutes ago) :P

IMO pull the transmission and pound in a new seal with a 2x4 and a mallet.

If you have a manual transmission, might as well replace the clutch while you're in there.

Sound advice imo. I would also recommend considering a PT Cruiser if you're modular and on a budget. ;)

well, I think I am just gonna pull my tranny out, since I have never pulled an engine, and A tranny is a lot easier to take out than an engine, but I am gonna be getting my engine pulled out in july, and put some JE 8.6:1 pistons, with eagle rods, and a whole new head, to prepare for my new Star Stage 2 kit :-D anyone think I should replace anything else on my engine while it is out?

If this is the case man, I would just pop for a case of the cheapest oil you can gind (you'll need it for the break in anyways), and just make sure you keep your engine at least to where you can see oil on the dipstick until rebuild time. My HG went on me and I would go days without seeing any oil between the lines on the dipstick and even, get this, let the oil light come on a couple times before I refilled. No point in getting into the engine bay that much unless you realy have to.

Oil costs less than engines. Meditate on this.

That was just in the days before the engine was coming out for the rebuild. I should've mentioned that, huh. Don't get me wrong. I still felt like I deserved an ass whooping for letting that light come on imo, just that I knew it was all coming out in a matter of days so...

Yeah even if the engine is coming out no reason to abuse it any more, minimize the damage and you may reuse of sell as long as you don't ruine the engine...

i got mine done in a day but ive also pulled my trans a few times, since you've never done this it will probably consume the better part of your weekend.

you're going to need to pull the axles, drop the trans, pull off the clutch and flex plate to get at the rear main (i actually just changed mine) ALWAYS get the OEM rear main when changing, dont get the napa shit...its not worth it, i did one time and lesson learned.

to get it in just get the inside lip over the crank end and then put on the flex plate and hand tighten the bolts in a star pattern to pull the seal in flush, worked absolutely marvelous for me.

here are some pics of what you'll be looking at, notice i didnt pull the axles from the hub ;) went way faster not having to deal with the fuggin axles nuts
