Question about a/f meter readings...
At wot in 1st and 2nd, my meter is readin well over 1.0XX volts.
My friend told me that on most boards, it is said not to trust any readings over 1.0V because o2 sensors dont put out more than 1.0V regardless. Is this true with our cars?
If so, what could be causing my abnormally high readings?
If not, is it possible to really be running that rich, thats insane.
I know my fuel milage is complete GARBAGE now. use to get 20-30 mpg depending on how i drove...now im getting prolly less than 1/2 that. altho i have a hard time keeping my right foot out of it since im boosted now, hehe ;)
95 automatic, just a hahn stage 1 right now. (waiting on the welder to finish up the end tanks on my spearco)

i would think that it is either your ground for your a/f
or your O2 sensor is shot. most peeps get crap for gas mileage when their O2 sensor goes bad.

so our o2 sensors should never read over 1.0V?

What voltage does the gauge read if you are driving around 40 - 50 and take your foot off the gas with the car still in gear? It should go down around .007v maybe hit a neg. voltage but no more that -.007v I get higher voltage over 1 volt sometimes in the morning. I think my car is running that rich too, I have a lot of unburned fuel coming from the muffler. Mine usually goes down to normal numbers after a little bit of driving.

I get in the .1V occasionally. certainly possible but mostly I stay in the .09's at WOT. (I hope you dont really mean 1V).

No, I really mean 1.0 Volts. I normally run between .920 volts and .970 volts at WOT.

It's possible. There's no little man that says, "Hey! You can't go over 1V!" to the O2 sensor. Just means you're stupid rich is all. Like black smoke rich..

Is all that fuel getting dumped bad for your engine??? Isnt that costing you power as well?

Heh I think some 420As got fuel mixture richness problems. I got one of dem modified autometer gauges and I always gets full green on WOT and green is like around the .75 to 1.0 voltage range. It's probably more like .82 or something but I'm still running rich as hell. I get like 300 Miles to the tank also, which I guess is ok but could be better.
My fuel mods are: Fuel Pump Rewire (I think this might be the main culprit with another :( ) Airtex Inline Fuel pump (the main culpirt hehe... came with my star kit) and the Vortech boost dependent fuel regulator.
all this= SUPER RICH
Oh yes if you run rich you risk fouling plugs, catalytic converter, and O2 sensor. I hear if you lean out your AF ratio to stoichiometric or something you can get hella more horsies and save gas at the same time :)

No, i mean at wot i get 1.010+ volts
about going 45 and letting off, i never get a negative number, real low, but not negative, so my ground should be good.
my gas mileage is absoluetly horrid right now, like seriously i can damn near wath my fuel guage go down, lol. like got 30 miles to a 1/4 tank, haha. part of the problem is running super rich, bigger problem is my right foot, hehe.
i havent leaned it out, cause right now im gettin crazy boost creep in top of second (automatic - those on the asog board probably already read about this, hehe). so right now ild rather drown the cylinders then detonate ;), also let off when it starts creepin over 6 lbs. welder should be done with my fmic soon, and piping is on the way, then gotta get my exhaust done, and all will be good and i can start leaning it out.
i just wanted to know if our o2 sensors really could read that high.

OK, how bout this one. With my foot on the floor the voltage is under .2 - yes I typed that right, .2 . At the very moment I start to lift, the volts jump to .9xx or 1.xxx. Gas mileage is fine, it runs a mid 14 1/4, but I can't seem to get it to register properly at WOT.

I'm really sorry that I couldn't respond earlier. I'm home for thanksgiving and my dads computer is too old to sucessfully use the message board (P75, it seriously blows up when I try). Please send me all the info/questions you have by e-mail to "cbehnken@vt.edu" I'm writing this from a friends house and I can't keep checking the board like this.
Thanks,
Corbin

I woudl watch running that rich for extended periods of time. You can damage your O2 sensor or cat.
