Hey Guys-
I am needing some help right about now...long story short i was messing around in an empty parking lot last Saturday and my check oil light came on. I stopped messing around and went home. I had the oil changed on Mon because it was about time anyways, but I was also getting a weird engine knock. Well it kept doing it so I change the oil again the other day and put some much heavier oil in. Still the damn noise..I am really hoping I didnt mess up a valve. Anyone who could gimme some ideas I would apprciate it. I am going to Corbins this weekend but I am thinking with everyones help I couls prolly fix this myself and maybe save myself a grand. Thanks

Yay you spun a bearing! You shouldn't have driven it home after the oil light came on. Get ready to do the "Rebuild Dance".

Pull your pan and check for excessive rod movement. Ever so slight side to side but NO up and down is how it goes I think.

Valves don't knock. Rods knock. You damaged a rod bearing. Quit driving it before you ruin your crank and spit a rod out the block.

Well, there is good news and bad news.

The good news is, your valves are perfectly fine!

The bad news is, your block is probably scrap.

That same stuff happend to me last year but the only thing I was on my way to work and my car just stoped when the light changed green, and my engine was locked for about 3 weeks. I pulled everything apart on that shit looked like scrap metal!

meh thanks for responding..decided to say f' it and i am buying corbins engine and building that up..the car still runs so im like ok works for me

Driving on a spun rod bearing is stupid. Eventually the bearing will pulverize into tiny chunks that go into your head and destroy your valvetrain. Your crank will grind itself to death, and eventually the rod will smash the piston to bits and eject itself through the side of the block.

Your engine is broken. Park it, sell it, or fix it.

is there a post or anything about how to go about fixing a spun bearing?...mine went last weekend! :owned
and on the freeway too! :wtf I had no choice but to drive it back home!

EDIT: Do you think I would have to replace the rod or main bearings? or Both?...or more??? I haven't pulled the oil pan yet, hopefully by this weekend!

You ALWAYS have the choice to park it the moment you get engine knock, and have it towed back home imo.

You'll have to remove the crankshaft from the engine, machine it, then reinstall it with new bearings. You probably spun a rod bearing, but might as well replace all of them.

Usually the easiest way to do this is to remove the engine from the car, flip it upside down, and pull off the bedplate. You could try doing it with the engine in the car but it's a major PITA.
