7436, Either porting or boaring a throttlebody and underdrive pulley Posted by opie1, Nov-18-01 05:32 AM
I wasn't sure on porting or boaring my throttle body. just looking for some suggestions. Also what kind of UDP should I get. I appreciate your help. THanks Terry.

Get the AFX Underdrive pulley. it is $160 from howellautomotive.com. comes with belts, etc.
Boring your throttlebody will give you quick throttle response and a bit of help on the high end. Porting out your manifold (look at http://www.extrudehone.com) will help you immensly in the high end. I have mine ported paper thing from my NA days, and i remember taking civic Si's from 70-110 on the freeway.

Yeah pretty much everythign Dino said. Definately go with the 55mm TB and I'll let everyone know the results of my ported/polished manifold once I get the rest of it installed.

when you port your manifold, do you also port head, or do you not have to. I dont know how to pull my motor out by myself. the only motors ive ever helped pull out were both chevys, there are way to many wires under my hood. so how could i go ahead and port my own and not spend alot of money?

You don't have to port the head at the smae time as your manifold. It'd be a good idea to smooth out the runners a bit with fine grit sand paper but you don't need to actually take it off and port it.
If you want to port your own stuff I think summit racing sells a port/polish kit with all the bits and stuff you'll need.

I would recomend that if you are going to do a port/polish to also do an EGR block off as well. The EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculator. This dumps exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. This is to burn any unburnt fuels and to help warm up the car quicker, wich then inturn leaves black crap all in your intake manifold like resin. No real performance gain in blocking it just maintaning power. You will get a CEL(Check Engine Light) but it won't hurt anything. Why do all that work to just get it all messed up again. Just my 2 cent

Like resin. . . .HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, this board is full of pot heads! He's right though, it does coat the inside of the intake manifold with black shit that does defeat the purpose of intake manny polishing when it gets coated with shit again.

ahhhhhhh, das sum chronic
i think once i get the throttle body thats sittin on my kitchen table ported to 55mm, i will port my intake mani and smooth sum other shit when i figure out what all is good smooth performance wise.

7452, RE: Either porting or boaring a throttlebody and underdrive pulley Posted by DarkOne, Nov-19-01 09:31 AM
I've ported my intake manifold myself (with the help of my more-experienced motorcycle-buff Uncle), as well as took the noose out of my throttle body, making it the same diameter throughout. (54mm?)

I did the same as dark one, Ported the intake manifold and the TB opened up. I might be porting my extra head myself too but I am not sure yet.

I haven't done it myself, but you will need a flex extension which wasn't mentioned before to get up into the runners.
