I got a spare motor from someone in town who had his motor replaced. For some reason the shop shoved a steel rod in the bolt hole for the underdrive pulley, you can't get it out without drilling it out, so I was wondering if you can remove the crank with the underdrive pulley and crank sprocket as one piece if you pull the bedplate? If so how would I do it?

Well I don't know for sure but I would not think that it would be easy. You will also have to remove the oil pump to sererate the bedplate and block. You might be able to do this by just unbolting the pump from the block / bedplate, but I don't think so since you can't get any clearence for the pump with the crank sproket still on. Either way if you want to use the crank you will have to remove the steel rod so I would say get that out of there first. I don't know what they did to it but you should be able to get it out. How long is the rod that's coming out? Is this rod threaded? You could thread the rod and use a puller on the pulleys but this would be going to the extreme.

The rod is about sticks out of the hole by about six inches, I've tried putting the puller and have it press against the rod but its on their tight, it keeps slipping off. The rod is stuck on there pretty good. Seems like it's caught on the threads, it won't turn by itself, it turns the whole crank. I'm thinking the crank is pretty much useless by now, just trying to get it away from the block. I unbolted the oil pump, all it does is swivel around.

well if you got the oil pump loose than drop the oil pan remove the bedplate. next remove end caps for the rods and the crank should drop right down with pulley, crank sprocket, oil pump still attached. I took out my crank with crank sprocket and oil pump still attached.

Drill the rod out, use a larger bolt in the crank. Sounds worse than it is...

Seems like the bedplate is stuck on. Does anybody know the best way toremove it? I feel I should pry it apart but I dont want to damage the mating surfaces. Should I tap it with a hammer? I'm really clost to solving this crank problem.

A rubber mallet or dead-blow hammer is your best bed, don't use a real metal hammer. If that's all you have put a block of wood aganst the bedplate and hit the wood.

Just tap the bedplate to break the seal and get it free. Don't go swinging like Sammy Sosa on it though.

heat is your friend when removing shit stuck in the crank bolt hole. dont ask me why i know. :7

And when you put it back together again, don't forget the o-ring and to properly apply your anaerobic sealant. You don't want to have to be repulling your engine like we're doing up here in Phoenix because of a lousy leak. :p
