What is the best anaerobic sealant to use for the bed plate to block? Should you use a certain kind or is permatex brand fine?

i used the permatex brand but most people have went to the dealer for it. I didnt have any leaks so i guess its good

Just wanted to know for sure because I dont want to pull the engine reseal the bedplate and have it leak still because of the type of anaerobic sealant.

To be honest, permatex is probably fine but since its the bedplate......maybe dealer is the way to go. I used the permatex hpv or whatever its called on the bearing caps on the cams and no problems. Napa said its permatex's equivelant of the anerobic that LOCTITE makes.

A couple things: Permatex is ultimately owned by Loctite. Also, when I delivered parts to shops and dealerships, shops including the Mitsu dealer has ordered Permatex Anaerobic for use on engines they are servicing. I know that because when I dropped it off I asked the tech what he needed it for. If dealers use it for motors they slap a warranty on, it is good for me to use as well.

I still want to know why it doesnt cure in the tube :P

Just in case you're not kidding. Anaerobic = without air. As in, this sealant cures in the absence of air. When squeezed between the two metal surfaces, it cures. RTV is the exact opposite. It requires the humidity in air to cure.

but there is no air in the tube....you squeeze the amount you want out and cap it off. NO AIR why doesnt it cure?

There is air in the tube, but only on one end. For the other end, it may have something to do with the sealer being surrounded by more sealer in a big blob. That may slow its cure down to an unappreciable rate. So, maybe if you left it in the tube for 10 years, it would cure. Being spread out between two rigid surfaces at a few thousands thickness may speed up the cure. If you squirted out the sealer in a line on the table, I bet it would remain gooey for a year. If you compressed that sealer between two ridgid surfaces at a few thousands thickness, I bet it would harden up.
