Manifold looks nice. I will be getting one after I get some money and read some reviews of it. Take more pics.

Not to rain on your parade but if you look at teh first pic of the intake manifold, and you look at the very backside of the inside you can see a small hold where the light is shinnin through. Does anyone else see what Im talkin about?

Damn that manifold awsome. You gotta get some pics up of it installed. I always wondered about that manifold. Are you supposed to use the stock runners?
73969, RE: My new Intake manifold and Turbo (56k no way)
Posted by Initial DSM, May-03-04 01:53 PM
yeah you should prolly port the runners but its not really all that necessary i hear. Mine are ported.

yeah it uses stock runners
i've got one also but i'm using a 70mm tb and the intake manifold it self has a slighty different design

Looks like a scratch to me. And the light coming through the hole next to it is reflecting off the scratch and making it look like a hole. I'm fucken Sherlock Holmes.

its just a scratch the map hooks up at the bottom on the end by the last runner

did jason do any type of dyno time comparing the two mani's(stock vs fab'd)? I'd be interested to see how much mid range it gives/takes compared to stock. They just did a huge test on the different 4g63 intakes available and the stock 1g manifold outflowed all of them up to 6600 rpms. Ours doesnt flow as well as that but it was very interesting to see the comparison.

The test that was posted on NABR only had one set of variables. I wonder if they would have upsized the throttle body, swapped heads/cams or tried to flow more with a bigger turbo, would the test have come out differently.

The 1G intake seems to flow pretty darn good, but that might not have been the restriction when doing the testing. If you maximized the other variables, the test might have shown that the 1g intake was getting out flowed by other SHEEP Metal intakes that are on the market.

It was a good test anyway. I got to see the results prior to them being released. Quite a bit of work went into it and hats off to those that put forth the effort.

we must have read two different tests

"The test vehicle was a 1990 Eagle Talon with the following (major) modifications:

8:1 Ross pistons on Crower rods
HKS 272/272 cams, Crower springs and retainers, stock 1g casting
2.5" I/C piping on a Buschur Racing FMIC
Stock 90 throttle body
3.5" GM MAF
3.5" Buschur Racing exhaust
Forced Performance 3065 with 3" tubular O2 housing, intake pipe/filter were removed "

That turbo is lightyears away from stock and the valvetrain was completely upgraded.

\

2.4 Liter version of the 420a.
Green = BlackDog MotorSports
Blue = stock
Red = Indy

The BDMS manifold uses the stock runners cut at roughly the same spot as the FastFabs. Results should be similar.

pretty cool. know of a sheet floating around for the good old 2L version, preferably turbo'd?

Here is the link you copied and pasted from. http://nabr.jayntguru.com/shootout/

I read the initial report and had not read the site until tonight. They do at least point out some of the limitations of the test. It doesn't really help us with our intakes.

You also mistook my point. I said they needed to maximize the variables. I never said all of those components were stock. Upgrading/changing different components would have shown different results. The more variables, the better. What if they used stock 1G cams, maybe the turbo would have spooled earlier with one intake than another. I am just trying to look at it from different sides.

I don't all of this is in the website. Here is more info.

This is the RPM-normalized DSMLink data, this shows how long it took to go from 3504 rpm to 7792 rpm (includes spool-up, and how long did take to go from 4904 rpm to 7792 rpm (stable boost). In seconds .. by the way.

3504-7792 4904-7792
BJs 9.73 5.42
Dejon 9.56 5.25
FRH 10.01 5.41
Hogan 9.16 5.25
Magnus 9.44 5.50
stock 9.65 5.40
Venom 9.19 5.24

It sure would be nice if we had some numbers for our 2gnt cars :(

My question is when i got my ff intake there are no places for vacume lines> So i cut out a piece of aluminum and will be welding it on the back it is aobut 1/4inch. Just and idea i wouldn't try to tap the side of the manny and the bottom would be a pain in the ass.

at the bottom side of the intake i think the larger holes r for where u can unsrew the Tee's in ur stock intake and then put them into ur ff one

+1

Although I prefer funtion over form it would be interesting to see how it looks. I do wish jason would dyno test the manifold on a typical setup(Howell block, stage 2 star or 3 hahn) I'm very interested in the comparison. Hell i'd be happy just to see it vs stock on any turbo setup.

I will post pics tonight of the added alumnium i added tonight looks a little goofy but will give more threads. I have about 10 vacume lines for my car and i am going to do away with the 3 in one deal.

i will be doing some dyno testing for the turbo setup soon hopefully i just got to finish gettin my new motor in so it will be a couple weeks. i'll be basically stage 3 for the dyno numbers

its a total pain in the ass but it would benefit our community here, could you make a pull or two w/ the stock mani on the dyno w/ the new one on? Be a champ and save the day man :)

Holy Magnus Motorsports 1/2 ass copy batman! I wonder if he called Marco up to get the exact dimensions of the 4g Magnus upper plenem hehe. It looks nice though, I'd be interested to see a true comparrison of this with the stock manifold on a turbo car with no other variables. I wanna know how restrictive our upper plenem really is (although the shorter intake runners will somewhat negate the relivance of the difference I guess). It sure would be nice though if someone actually came out with a full blown well designed intake manifold for our cars like Magnus Motorsports did for the 4g63. Someone needs to sit down and put some serious effort into it... there's definately a market for it.

How much do they cost?? shipping??
How long does it take to get one??

here are the pics of my intake many. I don't have it drilled or taped yet. But there is no hook up for the stock vacume 3 barb fitting. plus i want every thing to have there own source.

For me it was 350 and it took about a week to get.

I was thinking of doing the seperate dyno runs myself; but my setup is neither hahn nor star, so in hindsight I think it'll be kinda useless to you guys. plus its $ :)

Magnus has straight runners; this does not. Ive helped install a Magnus in a friends car once; they both look quite different up close.

Besides screw Magnus. I called them once in desperation to make a manifold for our cars. my answer? sure... for $1500.But of course If I still had my 4G63, it'd be my first choice for an intake mani.

Indy keeps delaying their design. I believe they just dont think theres a market for it. last promise they told me it was to be done last December for an auto show that month...

This was already discussed in earlier threads; but I believe the main problem with our flow is in our plenum, not the runners. If you just port the runners and have them gasket matched, you dont really need a full design of a manifold in order to have the perfect flow. As long as it works is all it matters to most of us I'm sure.

to answer previous question, the turbo is T3 60-1 with .63 A/R with 60 trim wheel.

I posted this on dsmtuners awhile back:

You have 4 choices when it comes to 420A manifolds:

1-Port your stock manifold - this sucks because the manifold is shaped like the letter 'C' therefore you will only be able to reach about 1-2inches up into the runners, which are 12.5 inches long. And i doubt you will be able to even touch the plenum.

2-Extrude Hone\Port the stock manifold - this is good because it will get the flow of the runners equal, this setup should give gains throughout the entire powerband. Extrude honing promotes velocity more so than volume.

3-Venom Intake manifold - everybody says this manifold is crap, but everybody use to think the world was flat also. Every dyno I have seen of this manifold resulted in minimal torque loss with decent midrange and good top end. For some odd reason everybody says it is a POS, because their friend of a cousin's sister's, brother's little son said so.

4-Fast Fabs Plenum - this plenum bolts onto our lower stock runners. This cuts down the runner length to 8 inches. The plenum will flow better than the stock plenum but it uses stock runners. So porting the runners (2inches from head side and 2 inches from plenum side) should give even more gains.
