73958, how can i get more air to my cai (talon bumper) Posted by ajna_star, May-03-04 10:37 AM
teh iceman is for a 95 eclipse, so it sits short(red) of the duct(blue). is there anything i can cut or remove so it will get more air?
red is where the intake sits, green is a wall of plastic or metal(theres no air getting to the filter from the center opening because of that 'wall'), blue is the only spot air is going in..
any ideas?

Dryer duct to the filter from the opening? That or maybe a cold air box? The eclipse bumper is easier to do this with as all you have to do is remove a plastic piece of the bumper. Goodluck and let us know what works.

Make like a dryer duct or thin sheet metal chute going to the fake brake ducts IMO.

there is no point to doing this. the air may be *slightly* more dense if its a cold day, but you will never notice any gain. as ive said in 2 other threads w/in this month, you cant "push" air into your engine w/out some sort of forced induction.

If you cant push air in with anything other than forced induction, I assume you mean nitrous, supercharger or turbo, then what the hell would you call ram air???

Alrigh now everyone, lets just calm down. We dont wanna have to get into one of those disscussions AGAIN.
You could try making an airbox outta sheet metal. That what I plan on doin...Once it get my CAI...and all that other stuff I want...

In a true ram air setup (not talking about that pontiac duct job they call ram air), you'd have to be going roughly 180mph to get half a pound of pressure built up.
and on to your topic, i don't think it'd make much difference as to how much air you can get to it.

I have a perfect solution to the problem. Buy a turbo kit. Then you won't have to worry about the filter getting down there or hydrolocking.

I like his idea...sounds like a plan to me...(sorry that Im not helping)...is the wall of plastic the little black cover where the foglight would go?...I was gunna remove mine but I got lazy...

"notice i said 'get more air to' not 'push air into'... im not an idiot..."
now now, no need to get all upset. you mentioned that you wanted to cut an opening to let more wair in. do you think there is a vacuum at the bottom your engine bay? (well, im ignoring negative pressure drops because of the shape of the car). if you were to fabricate a "box" to sit around the filter, that might help to cool the temps down a bit. just cutting a hole though isnt going to do anything.

Marc, you can do like some people do and take that plastic piece that sits in front of the wheels out. Will look shitty...I personally wouldn't worry about it...air is naturally going to go under the car and up towards the air filter. I don't think it will be worth you time to create something to get more air/colder air to that filter.
