73848, Oil Leak/Burn Posted by synergy2981, Apr-30-04 01:19 PM
My 97 Eclipse RS (non turbo) was leaking last year. I had the shop fix it by replacing the Head Gasket with new MUlti Layer Steel HG last January. When I got it back, the oil on the dipstick was more than required. Now, the oil in the Dipstick is just half. When I checked wherever i parked, i don't see any leak or droplets of oil. It make me think that my car is burning oil. What do you guys think? What should I do to find what the problem is? Where does the oil go?

The owners maunal states that consumption of one quart of oil every 3000 miles is normal.
All motors burn some oil as a function of design.

^^^true, mine hardly ever deposited oil on the ground when it was leaking. to check, get the car in the air and slide underneath the block. you should be able to see almost everything from that position. also...pay close atention to the left (drivers) side.
