I just installed a built engine with new melling oil pump and an underdrive pulley. When the car is idling when the rpm's get low around 750 my oil light will slowly flicker dim to bright. Is this common with an underdrive pulley?

ohhhh shit dude! STOP driving it. sounds to me like someone fucked up on the clearances for either the mains or the rod bearings. i'd be willing to bet you're going to spin a bearing and destroy that block REAL quick. who assembled your block?

obviously check the oil, but im sure you already have

the udp doesnt effect oil pressure

you could be in a SERIOUS shit locker right now man, thats just the blatant truth because that light doesnt turn on unless it sees les than 5psi oil pressure...and that means you're pretty much owned already

Your oil pressure is too low at idle. It shouldn't do that. I'd start making angry phone calls to whoever built your motor. Offer to plastigauge their butthole shut for not checking any bearing clearances on your motor.

I built the engine with the help of my uncle. We did platicgauge everything. This just started after about 500 miles.

Well, i imagine you don't want to plastigauge your own butthole shut, so my first suggestion would be to get a real oil pressure gauge on the car and verify your oilpressure. The sender might be dying, or you might have left some bearing clearances to large, or it could possibly be the pressure relief spring in the pump binding. Could be a lot of things. Verify the oilpressure first and foremost.
