73640, Hmm so far costs of my 2.4 engine :P Posted by BlueMoonEclipse, Apr-27-04 04:07 PM
Hey guys just got back from the machine shop...and here is the price on certain things i had done
(only shop in LV that will knife edge btw, great shop...at the other shop i went to they kinda looked at me strange when i told them i wanted to make a "CARAVAN ENGINE" into something a lil more powerfull hehehe)
Knife edge-125 Balance-48 Polish-0
Block Deck-85 Hot tanking-46 Honne-38
ADD to that
$125- for Brand new SRT-4 pistons/rods/bearings/rings(im switching the rings out for total seals and maybe going with JE pistons...we will see this week)
$325- for engine block including shipping......
So ...good pricing? bad pricing?

125 is sick for all the internals :thumbsup
heres mine:
machine = free
rods = got some t2 rods for 10 bucls, sold them for 140, still saving for teh sickness
pistons: havent bought them yet but thinking ~450$ with my hookup on teh sick coatings i'll get
block: 110$, dodge stratus shortblock with everything
tryinf to save as much as i can here, you know how it is _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

Too much.
My side motor mount broke yesterday. Great. How bad is it to drive without it for a while?

Where did you pick up piston/rods for $125? I think Kise's price is a bit over $200.
Prices don't look bad at all, way to go.

I got the pistons from someone on Neons.org who had em, and decided to do something else...ergo the price (i know thats way low including shipping lol)
Ok now why no total seals....wheat?? there are diferent total seals for turbo apps...why would they be a bad thing in your opinion? (you think blow by is nescesary?? honestly havent used total seals on a boosted app myself, just on V8 rebuilds...woked good btw)
BTW how the heck you get FREE machining turbo 8??? And yes its a good idea to Ceramicoat the pistons (i need to do the crown in my case)
Oh now i need to get oil pump/tensioner/water pump..anyone got the Price Fenton Dodge for these (might get em localy on the auto repair shop price discount if the diff aint too much) the setup i wanted was Pt Oil pump housing cause with that one it dosent get in the way...
One thing that well...i asked there if he knew localy anyone who mollycoated...he said that it was better to DIY (huh! self mollycoat..)...cause results are Negligible (yet i want a mollycoated Crank just in case you know...for preventive measure...every bit to fight spun bearings)

if you keep the srt-4 pistons, and why not since they are good and you already have them, you should also use the srt-4 rings
they are good for 500 hp at least
my 2 cents

i recently became acquainted with the owner of a machine shop here in san clemente, i babysat his two daughters for a shortblock assembly :P lol, he's mellow though and has been doing machining FOR-EV-ER...and besides, i bring him lots of business

moly coat crank :wary i think a better idea would be the oil scattering stuff, im getting that on my crankscraper and oil pan and was thinking about the crank as well. the best defense against spun bearings is keeping oil in the pan, proper clearances and dank ass oil...im also thinking of getting the oil pump hand ported some at the shop to squeeze some extra oil pressure out of it

total seals help keep the compression up, and on v8's...thats exactly what you want/need to make the most power out of what you have

Well i was going to have mollycoated where the crank surface meets the bearings...but i guess mobil 1 will have to do
Talking about oil...what oil viscosity and weight you guys recomend for break in of this engine

always use regular oil for break in, i just use valvoline 10w30 and call it a day. dont use synthetic oil for break in.
