I've searched and searched and I can't find the answers I need. I am looking for someone using a datalogging program on a laptop. I downloaded the version from RRE, and am looking into the www.obd-2.com version as well. I'd like to know the sample rates, and ease of use of these two, or any others that may be better. I need to buy one in the next week or so. I need it to work with a laptop, not a palm, so pocketlogger is out. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: I also need to know which of these three from obd-2.com to get.

ISO for Euro, Asian, Chry. No USB adapter support - $122
ISO iTran with direct or indirect option - $132
ISO iMax with integral encapsulated connector and LED. No USB adapter support - $152

My laptop doesn't have a 9pin plug, so I'm pretty sure I'll need an adapter to go to a USB port. I think the iTran is what I need, but I'm not 100%.

As far as I know, you need the ISO version. Sample rates are not that great, like 5-6 samples a second..My pocket logger can get 15-16 per second, but less logging capabilities than the laptop version. Since that says there is no USB adapter support, that versioin may not work with your laptop if it does not have a serial port..at least that's what I can gather from it..

You will need the ISO Itran if you do not have a serial port on your laptop. I use my OBD-2 and like it but like /\ said you will get less bits per second. The dash it pretty nice to on the obd-2. It is a little tricky to use at first but their support is good and they reply fast. I ordered mine on a Monday and got it on Wensday.


edit: You will also need the USB to serial adapter.

Points to you, that was exactly the answer I was looking for.

I have the regular ISO program and I use it with an adapter. I don't use USB though I use a PCMCIA card adapter that creates a serial port. IF you have the PCMCIA card slots then you can get it adapted that way. I know this does not fit your exact situation but it might help. Also if you call Alex Pepper (he makes the obd-2 product)he can tell you which one you need for your application.
