Ok, my car is giving me soooo many problems. My vehicle speed senson went out on the car and the gear that runs it is somewhere inside the tranny. (manual) I found this out last week. I drove my car today because i had no other vehicle to drive. while driving (interstate) my 5th gear kept on popping out, and the RPM's kept jumping causing the car to jump. What could be causing this?? Do you think it is the gear that is stuck inside the tranny? I really dont have the money to take the tranny apart to see. What could be the problem. I have already thought to take all the tranny fluid out and see if the gear is stuck somewhere. I plan on doing that this weekend. any ideas?? I am stumped. Also, it only messes up while the car is hot, not cold. Weird IMO.

That sounds like a fun time sir. The gear being inside the tranny can't be a good thing. Is the gear metal or plastic? I don't know. If it's plastic, and it's causing the problems, it would eventually breakdown and stop, but not before putting additional wear on the internals. If it's metal, I think you would hear it bouncing around in there.

I don't have any experience with this sort of problem, but I figured I would help you out with a bump. Draining the fluid might be the best idea. You might even think about getting some cheap-o fluid and trying to flush the gear down after you drain it with the drain plug open. You never know. Good luck sir.

The gear is plastic. It would probably cause some problems though.

best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction)
fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong...

Yeah it is plastic. I talked with satan today and they said that the reason why it it jumping while in 5th gear. she also said that it would jump because there is no speed sensor. Hopefully the little gear wont tear up anything but saturday i am going to drain out the fluid and take off the speed sensor it is a good spot to put the fluid back in (not as hard as the usual way) and drain and flush with the same fluid. hopefully it will work. I will update on sat when I get done with it.

had a similar problem with my 95GS. my problem turned out to be a bad electrical connection at the speed sensor. it caused erratic speedometer readings and brief engine stalls. this may not be your prob, but its a good thing to verify anyway.
