Hey guys, there's a certain member on the board that I have a deal going threw with.
He has offered to bore out my polished intake manifold for me. I need it bored to 60mm to match my new 60mm TB.
He has informed me that he can't do it without adding weld to expand the diameter of the hole so ti don't crack.

I have never heard of this before, can some of you guys who have done this please post how you did it so mine gets done the right way please..

Pics of the intake half polished...it's comming out good so far but I don't wanna finish it till he's done.

never heard of welding. you'll get more matching the runners then boring out the whole intake. if you bore the intake its still trapped at the runners.

he is correct, the diameter around the neck closest to the TB is not capable of being bored out to 60mm without penetrating the walls of the mani. By simply "adding material" around the neck you are free to bore it to match the 60mm tb without fear of breaking thru the wall. It is better to prevent this than try to fix it.

I think its better to not even try it. unless you have a spare.. but if it does break.... wouldnt that be a VERY bad thing?

like totaleklipse97 said, it's more of a cover your ass sort of thing... easier to add material to something that is already there in case of a mistake than to try to add aluminum to air (or to try to build it up to cover the huge ass hole).

Seriously that neck right after the throttle body is at most 61mm, which if bored PRECISELY 60mm dead center will still only leave .5mm thickness around the circumference. You have to ad 2-3 mm of material around the edges to make sure your intake manifold doesn't snap off at that spot then your engine blows before you can turn it off.

yeah, aluminum is a pretty soft metal... i'm not sure what kind of vaccuum it would be under but .5mm is not enough to keep it's shape... I'm sure as hell going to add material to mine before I bore it out (when I do get the MP 60mm tb)

uhm i didn't have a problem with my bore to 62mm. if i had a digital camera, i'll show you, but mt jeep TB is bored to 62mm and i bored the mani to match it and the neck of the intake manifold is bored exactly to the TB. maybe i have more alluminum around the neck of my intake manifold, but for me it worked and had no issues, i've boosted to 20psi before and had no cracks.

okay heres the deal. if you want a STRAIGHT line bore of 60mm, you need to add material.

the left side of the intake inlet is where you will go thru. you can bore a lot more off the right side to get a 60mm or higher bore, but it wont line up with your tb opening, kinda defeating the point. i traced the 60mm gasket inside hole (lined up with the TB bolts of course) and started to bore. left side blow thru. i was boreing to the traced out inner diameter for a true 60mm bore.
you need material if you want a true bore.
