Hey guys, where is the mass air flow sensor? I have something dangling around in the area between the air intake head and the battery. I have no idea what that is and I would really appreciate it if anyone coud tell me where the sensor is and what that piece of stuff dangling that could be. Thank you very much.

first of all, your posting this in the tranny section. wont get much help in here on that.
Second, if you have the 420a, we dont have MAF sensors. we have a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor on the end of the intake manifold.
not sure what could be hangin there....

Hmm. Sorry bout the misplaced thread. I honestly did try looking for any existing thread about the MAS but didn't find any. Anyway, yes mine's a 420A and thanks a lot for your help. But I still don't get what the hell's dangling around in my engine bay. Looks like some kinda sensor only I don't know what.

You have a 95. it's a nothing harness that used to go to a dealer-removed emissions component.

your mass airflow is under the dash, you need to remove the dash and every compoent under there then you can get to it....this sensor needs to be cleaned weekly

Man are you telling this guys hasn't been cleaning his MAS? Dude you need to use wd40, a whole shit load of it.

Haha. Well thanks guys. I don't know much about our cars because where I'm from, there are no Eclipses around. So once again, I gotta clean the MAS weekly and it's under the dash? Damn how do I even start looking for it? Could someone give me like nice, easy to follow, instructions on how to start looking for the MAS and finally removing it and spraying a shitload of WD-40?

as in...actually IN malaysia? What motor is in you car? 4g63 or 420A?

If the car was purchased new in your area, it will have a 4g63 under the hood, which means the mass air meter is under the hood, passenger side, near the airbox. Does it have an orange section in the rear tail lights?

If your car was imported and non-turbo, it is a 420A motor, which uses a speed density air meter and not a mass air.

Hrm... so if you have a 420a do you need to clean your speed density air meter? And it is under the dash? I never knew anything about leaning that on a regular basis, and "under the dash" is quite a vague location. I would like to know more specifically as well if it is something that may need attention-

No I'm not IN Malaysia. I'm FROM Malaysia. I'm in Minnesota right now. But like I said, this car is totally new to me. There's not a single Mitsubishi Eclipse in Malaysia. The only Mitsubishis we have are the Evos, Galants, Pajeros, Mirage, Lancer, and one or two other types. I came to the US, saw the 2g, loved it, bought it, now I'm confused and frustrated with it. Lots and lots or problems.

Anyway, mine's a 95' RS with a 420A. I changed my air intake and I think I messed things up. Put in a pipe to the intake manifold with a conhead air filter at the other end. The only thing I have connected to the engine is the breather. I didn't put back any other hose, or sensors. I did all these quite a long time ago so I forgot most of what I did. Now, I'm rather lost as to whether the "sensor" hanging in my engine bay has anything to do with my air intake.

As for the MAS, again, could someone please give me a directions on how to actually reach it? Thanks a million guys.

PS: Last night, my CEL came on with codes 12-41-64-42-24-55. I know 12 and 55 are nothing and 64 and 41 have been bothering me for the longest time. The other two, dealing with my TPS and MFI I'm not too sure what's wrong. Checked it and everything seemed fine. So I unplugged the negative and reset the ECU so the CEL is gone now. For awhile. Any ideas?

Probably not. Dino's first post points out that in 95's that plug went to emission control thingy's that were removed in a recall.

420A's don't have MAS. They are MAP equiped and is located at the far passenger side of the intake manifold.

I'd say check them as they come back up and troubleshoot from there.

Our MAP sensor, the one you should be looking for, is at the end if the intake manifold on the passenger side. It's black and it's the only thing on the end of the intake mani.

code 64 is catalytic converter efficiency failure. Replace it.

The "speed density meter" is the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is on the intake manifold.
