ok guys how the hell does it come off???????? i tried a gear puller...all that got me was a busted gear....i noticed a small pin on the side but no way of getting it out...any suggestions?????

A three bolt puller like the one you use on a steering wheel. That is how it comes off.

what are you bolting in onto???? i've noticed there are 3 small screw holes on it but other than that i'm not seeing how you mean it will work

Harmonic balancer puller. You'll need 3 M6X80.00MM bolts with a 1.0mm thread pitch.

Yes that's it exactly. You use those screw holes for the 3 bolts Dino speakes of and the harmonic balencer puller to do the pulling. You can rent the tool at autozone for about $15....

If this is the lower timing belt gear that is on the crank itself, then it can be a bitch. Mine wouldn't come off no matter what we tried. We ended up heating it with a torch and then using pry bars to get it moving. It ended up tearing it up pretty good and melted the inner timing belt cover quite a bit.

BTW: we tried every pully puller we could get our hands on to get it loose and nothing worked. This was on my original 1997 motor with only 75K miles.

I bought a new/used cover and gear from a buddy at a mitsu salvage yard.

yeah that is exactly what it is...i might just bring it to the machine shop and let them deal with it if it's gonna be that big of a pain....thanks

My harmonic balancer puller was fat and needed m6 x 1.0 x 120mm bolts. Its FAR easier to find a smaller puller than it is to find those 120mm bolts :wallbash

Also- make SURE they're grade 9.5 or 10! I created quite a few projectile holes in the wall and shredded bolts trying to use lower grades and simple threaded rod.

I just went through the same thing. I used a steering wheel puller and a torch to heat it up.(not to mention turbo8u's advise/ thanks again) That bitch won't budge with out heating it, don't waste your time. It popped right off after a little heat though.



Oh, you don't like altezza's? Too bad, cause your gonna get a good look at mine.

Mine always comes off with the application of an impact wrench. :shrug
