72078, Head Rebuild Questions Posted by EclipsedChef, Apr-03-04 05:20 PM
Tuesday im beggining my rebuild of the head and a few other things, and i just have a few questions. Lifters from mitsu are 22 or so a peice, and i just cant afford that right now, so what im asking is, whats the limit on these things? How often do they wear out? Is it ok to reuse them from another head?
The new head doesnt have all the hardware needed to be a complete swap, is it ok to use parts from my old head? Peices like rockers/lifters/bolts/and the metal peices that hold the cams in place?
I have a dremel in my posession for a few days, what can i use it for polishing and boring wise?
Do you guys have any suggestions or tips for me?
I already know about the timing write ups as well as the udp tips(which i will be installing too), is there anything else i will need besides the chiltons/haynes? I want this to be as easy as possible because breaking down has been pretty stressful. Thanks for your help!

From what I have read in other posts here it is not a good idea to swap cam caps from one head to another. As for the rockers and lifters and what not you should be fine though.

The mod in the last thread about this was Xtremers that I read. I believe that was his advice but I can't find the thread. It was a couple months ago I believe. You can pm him probably if you want. I know some people had no problems doing this while some mentioned cams locking up from doing this also. If I could find the old thread that would help(sorry). Don't mean to scare ya just what I've read here before. I'm getting ready to build a head here soon too. Good Luck!

Yeah, I would not reccomend using cam caps that did not origianally come with the head. We(soulcontroller and I) ran into this problem when we assembled his motor. He had a diff head that was worked over, and the cams bound up...A line bore could prob fix this, but finding someone to do it, and cost, its just not worth it..Others have had this issue also..

you can do it with the dremel it'll just take forever O_o I don't recommend porting with the dremel just polish it and just polish the exhuast side also.
