72038, Cat to Midpipe screws rusted on... Posted by Pyroman415, Apr-02-04 05:50 PM
Im trying to replace my stock exhaust with a new one but the screws connecting the cat to the midpipe are rusted on and I cant get them off. I tried for about 45 minutes and I used lots of force and WD40. Any suggestions or tips?

penetrating oil. wd40 will only help your wrench slip off faster.

PB Blaster. Keep spraying them and letting them soak for a couple days. Also you might try using a torch to heat up the flange. If none of that works, get a big honkin impact and go to town.

pb blaster is your friend. its the miracle solution for most of my stuck parts.

I had a bitch of a time with mine too. Just use pb blaster then knock off all the rust and find the correct socket and a breaker bar.

I rounded mine off after a day of torching and PB Blasting. PB Blaster is the shit, but it wasn't up to the task on my car. I used a cutoff wheel. The sparks are real purdy, too.

yea this happened to me... unfortunatly, it was before i had my air compressor, so no air tools. i ended up sawing my exhaust off with a f'n hack saw. those bolts were no going anywhere. i used liquid wrench, pb blaster and gave it hell for like 2 hours trying to get those bastards off and i still had no luck. ... good luck, you're gonna need it. lol :thumbsup
