iceman... doesnt heat, can use cold or short, comes with a k&n filter, AND its cheaper than aem or injen
72259, RE: Which is better.....

we could go on forever but I'm done this will never go anywhere.....its been fun tho
72027, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by SilverEclipse, Apr-02-04 04:27 PM
I say AEM, it is very high quality and can be had for under $200 easy. It also looks very nice and comes with a K&N filter. I can't bash any intakes because this is the only one i have had experience with but it will make a noticable difference as well as sound and look nice. The AEM doesn't heat soak easily either, it isn't very warm after driving around a while.

Turning is fun too!

Yeh well ajna st4 just helped me find a iceman for 175...I thinkt thats a good deal
72029, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by silvereclipse30, Apr-02-04 04:42 PM
I have the injen that is real similar to the V2 and it sounds and looks amazing.......also it is very thick and doesn't heat soak...gave very nice gains
72030, RE: Which is better.....

also I heard that the iceman is plastic...........I'd pass on plastic if that is the case

Its a cross-link polyurethane and its less heat conductive than metal intakes
72031, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by injendsm, Apr-02-04 04:44 PM
injen > all other intakes imo but i am just a little biased.
72053, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by Skrilla, Apr-03-04 06:06 AM
I agree with Ajna Star, having experience with both AEM and iceman I've found the icemman to be better. The plastic is the reason for it's use and NO it won't melt whch is the dumbest thing I've EVER heard

does the battery kick its ass??? cuz no matter what they are gonna take a lil beating even if u fix the battery thing........

Yeah alittle bit but I put a 2"x2"x1/4" piece of high density foam in between the "elbow" and the battery...

I quoted you the first time becuase you're attacking someone else. Your arguement is for DIY CAI vs. prebuilt one.

show me ur dynos???? and if this is just sooo awesome y doesn't everyone do it??? They don't cuz they don't wanna rig there car up....I would expect something like this from a civic ricer.....

Some people choose the more extreme route...turbocharging. The others don't have over a 100 dollars to waste on an AEM/etc intake.

I really don't know what to make of this statement. 'Rig' as in..how? Modify them? You're going to have to type clearly, son.

Ahhh, stereotyping cliches. Bravo. I never would have expected this from you. :rolleyes

You are not welcome to attack members and I'll call you on it everytime. Show me a DIY CAI done correctly not working. That's all I'm asking from you.
72230, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by 97whitESi, Apr-05-04 06:09 PM
actually, im betting a civic ricer wouldnt do this, cuz they would be like you silver, and waste 100 bux on a piece of shiny pipe
they wouldnt think of a smart DIY setup that provides the same benefits at like 10% of the cost. hell, they might think that brand X flows better and has more HP than brand Y cuz its polished brighter!

If you were to actually read (god forbid in your case) these 2 threads you would see that I haven't actually said which I'm for or not. I'm on your case becuase you're an idiot. Prove me wrong. I'm asking you to justify (with numbers, not your own inane opinions) how a prebuilt CAI will perform better than DIY. So far you haven't done that and have only managed to be the typical no0b. Prove me wrong.

U SAID the AEM is a waste.....PROVEN READ WHAT U SAID.....now if someone really likes the dryer hose look hell go for it......my point is that I'm doubting that a dryer hose which isn't gonna flow very well its not straight and smooth is better then proven AEM or INJEN intake....end of story

Uh oh, Uber = 48 No0b = 1. Kudos. However, I've been refering to DIY, not necessarily hose of some kind. ;) You almost made it kid. PVC will do the same thing at next to nothing on the cost and last I checked it's pretty smooth. lol. So, in your arguement of which produces the better ½ of a horsepower I "doubt" you'll see any gains and for that much money I think you lost out. Good shot though. In my honest opinion, they're both a waste. Like turbo8u said before, Forced Induction.

You think about opening your trap next time you tell anyone that they are wasting their time. It's not appreciated here as we are enthusiasts and will mod to our liking. There are plenty of auto's here that I'm are plenty faster than you, I'm sure. :) Just thought I ought to give you a heads up.

Ah, I guess it was your odd move of quoting exactly what you posted in a previous statement. Go figure. :shrug

Based on all of this I still don't see anything showing me a prebuilt CAI being better than a DIY one, which I would probably build from PVC and then attatched to the front in some method. They would all have the same bends so I'm not seeing air velocity being a problem. Anyone else have useful information?

I would complain about buying a "quality CAI" because they are overpriced. Also, affording a turbo kit has absolutely nothing to do with turboing your car. I am in the process of turboing mine now, and am not buying a kit. Same priniciple. I won't pay for overpriced parts when I can do it myself cheaper. Also, making a "custom CAI" would allow you to save up for that turbo kit, so your logic is flawed. Did you even read the write up for the dryer hose set up, or do you think someone is just running some dryer hose to their throttle body? I would be willing to bet when done properly, it would have more power at speed than a traditional CAI due to pressure build up inside of the intake. But things like that can't be measured on the dyno. New ideas are what allow cars to continue being modded. If everyone did the same things, that would be no fun.

You're suggesting quality is defined by WHP gains? If so than you really haven't shown us DIY isn't quality. :shrug
72258, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by silvereclipse30, Apr-05-04 07:39 PM
quality by the way its built....I'm sure metal is a more durable then dryer hose which can be cut up pretty easy
72260, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by Uberingram, Apr-05-04 07:44 PM
That's just to get the pvc attatched to the side brake duct on the front of the car. Did you honestly think we'd be running dryer hose to the TB of the car? Hahaha It's for like 3-6 inches.

EDIT: This thread has been derailed enough. :P
72264, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by silvereclipse30, Apr-05-04 08:43 PM
obviously it didn't run to the TB that would look even more rediculous....
72265, RE: Which is better.....
Posted by DR1665, Apr-05-04 09:53 PM
I guess mkiv.supras.org.nz/members/kevin.htm if they do that same mod then huh?

This is pretty ricey too. Translate www5.famille.ne.jp/~skinski/c-heatshield.htm and show me where he says he's embarrassed to have saved money by using dryer ducting to direct cool air to his air filter.

home.planet.nl/~marc.hesselberth/intake.htm I do believe he's got 321bhp going on here with his Swedish rice.

home.wxs.nl/%7Emarc.hesselberth/850turbo.html

So this is where I say I'll drop it, if you drop it, we agree to never discuss this ever again since we've both graduated from 3rd grade, go have one last smoke, and call it a night.

As turbo8u would say, "You're done."

Like Uber said you've gone and confused yourself.

Your argument wasn't even about forced induction it was about DIY CAI vs manufactured and their comparable gain

stop breathing

You will most likely continue to be flamed for the duration of your stay with this arrogance you think you possess with your limited, basic knowledge of air density.

Shit, it's common sense.

Brian also left out that www.roadraceengineering.com uses ducting as well

I think you should take some time to think about all this princess
