7202, Air filter, best performance ratings?
Posted by Super20G, Nov-14-01 01:44 PM
My old, tired, dirty, k & n filtercharger has just about had it. I am looking to get a replacement cone filter with a 3'' inlet. What is proven to have the best performance gain? HKS? K&N? I dont care it its expensive, not ungodly priced, but I dont care about paying more for a better filter.

What do you all think?

Just clean your K&N. They are supposed to last a lifetime and you are not really going to feel a difference by changing an air filter. If you want a new one, it will be purely based on asthetics.

I agree with Chris, not much performance difference, other than just looking pretty with a colorful diff filter.

Just get the spray on recharger kit and clean it up real nice and re-oil it. Good as new.

My reasoning for wanting to get rid of the k&n is because of nasty blow by. When I got the car, the crankcase vent tube was ran to the filter, and for months it soaked my filter in oil until I caught the prob... I have the recharger kit and have cleaned this bitch many times and reoiled it, but it's nasty old looking, bent up a little, with a glob of silicone plugging the hole where the vent tube used to go... I think I'll just replace the k&n with another k&n or the apexi filter.. Thanks for the help guys. If anyone comes accross the part # for the apexi filter by itself, let me know...

Yeah I would just stick with K&N, they have the highest flow numbers in any tests I've seen.

And the cleanest cut is the one withheld."

Heh get a HKS filter off of ebay, got mine for like 30 bucks, no carb # though :(

you gotta change the element out like every 6000 miles or when it starts to look dirty though. Haha I guess it just maybe beacuse I like the way it looks! :P
