if i put my new oilpan on car with new gasket(bottom out and put hole in current one) and then get my turbo kit in say a month and have to take it back off, can i still use that gasket or should i get another new one? I really need to get my car back on the road and take the month or so its gonna take OB to send me the kit.

You could probly get away with RTV for now, Is it in bad shape?

yea its leaking slowly, i tried some of that liquid metal crap, might of been rtv, but since the oil keeps leaking out, it couldnt solidify to it, it would just slide off

Clean both surfaces and use the blue RTV stuff from an autoparts store. get either the 613 or the 777. both are oil resistant. i used the 613 on my valve cover gasket that i replaced yesterday. i'd probably use whichever one has the higher heat tolerance (777). goodluck.

are you talking about on the gasket? or on the hole on the oil pan? I just want to know if i could reuse my oil pan gasket if i put it on for about a month

Yah clean up the gasket and rtv it, it should last a month at least.

Unless your gasket is totally shot to hell, you could reuse it for a while. I got the balck RTV - the important thing is to make sure you get a variety that is oil resistant as stated above - and you will need to clean the old gasket, the top of the pan, and the bottom of the bedplate off really good. Then you apply RTV to the pan and the bedplate. Set the gasket on the pan and bolt her up. I did this and not only did it not leak, but when we pulled the oil pan at rebuild time, the seal was so good that the gasket shredded between the 2 layers of RTV.

It is still better to get a new gasket though imo. Better safe than sorry, right?

The highest heat resistant RTV tubes from permatex are the Ulta Copper and Ultra Grey.

sure you could use some off brand RTV or something, but then again why would you want to? Do not skimp on gaskets/motor assembly materials.

lol, i have two. when i replace a motor or something i just use the spare :P right now i dont even have one though (crankscraper/RTV)

yea, ive used mine 3 or 4 times now.

when i installed the crankscraper i did get a new one. block/rtv/crankscraper/REusable oil pan gasket.

Yes, the oil pan gasket is fully reusable. You guys do know that this gasket is designed to NOT use any RTV on it? If you have to use RTV on the gasket to not make it leak, then either your gasket is bad,your surfaces are not clean, your pan is fuked, or you didnt tighten the bolts down properly...RTV makes a mess, and takes time to clean it all off..I don't know about others, but I hate wasting time on something that should't even be there in the first place. If you are going to use RTV, just don't even use the gasket...A good gasket, and around 20 ftlbs of torque on the pan bolts, you should be good to go. There ARE 2 spots where you need just a DAB of RTV- right where the oil pump housing meets the block, right on the flat surface...it's easy to see the connection of the oil pump to block..Just my thoughts, do as you wish :)

yea, i was only gonna use the rtv on that spot where it meets the pump anyway. I think you guys misinterpreted what i was intending to do in the first place..but i have everything solved now.
