Guys... I need your advice on something. To make things short... My ride needs a new crank pulley. (Long story - it shredded 3 alternator belts in 2 weeks... the pulley edges look like blades, hence it rips the belts in no time) The thing is... should I get a new stock one or is it worth investing a little more in the AFX's UDP ? Satan wants $122.00 for the pulley (they have it in stock - I don't have to wait) and the AFX at Howell's comes up to about $155 plus the 'wait until it arrives' (1-2 weeks?)

Let's get things straight here fellas... I did the search like always, came up with about 35 very informative posts (including the write-up's and all) but I don't want info - I just want YOUR honest opinion on what should I do ? If you were in my shoes... Would it be worth waiting for the AFX UDP + the extra $$$ or should I just forget about it and just get the stock one? I'd apreciatte your comments !

from what i've heard, everyone loves the af/x udp and it is well worht the $ and the wait. maybe you could call up howell and tell them your situation and they might speed things up. i should have an af/x udp bu the first week of summer. =) welcome to 2gnt.com!

You want the AFX. It's 7 direct hp right to the wheels - you probably came across that in your search. Make sure you do another search on how to get the stock pulley off, it's not that easy. You'll need a 3-5 ton 3 jaw puller. You can rent them at Autozone for free.

Not exactly free, but all you have to do is put down $40 deposite. If you want to keep it, just keep it. If not, return it and full money back. Make sure you have a compressor.

Yeah, what's the decision here honestly? If you HAVE to replace it and you can pay $33 for an extra 7hp at the wheels I would go with the AFX for sure!

I'm gonna try and follow it step-by-step... I want to try to install something to my ride myself for once! (other than oil filters, brakes & belts - which I like to take care of those myself) I just hope I get it right! :wary

you can always post in the for sale section to see if anyone has one they would like to get rid of, i got my afx udp for 100 shipped..and its brand new.

Is it just the AFX brand that give the 7WHP or could I buy any brand and get the same performance increase?

I bought a UDP off ebay. Regardless of what I paid for it or what band name is stamped on the side, it does_perform_well! with nice noticable gains. I am completely satisfied with it. It has not shredded any belts or make any whistling noise. It is worth purchasing, and is much better than stock. My stock UDP weighed from 7-8 lbs! the Aluminum UDP's weigh like 1 or 2 lbs! I would recommend purchasing an aftermarket UDP for your Eclipse-

Can someone get belt #'s posted up cause I got an ebay one also and would like to have the belts there when I do it instead of having to measure after install and then get belts. Sorry about the hijack.

It's a write up for the AFX UDP but it has some belt #'s with different brands.
Althought, you'll have to check if the belts are the same size from the UDP you got at eBay.

Get the AFX. The ones off ebay are made from poor quality material and aren't nearly the same underdrive percentage as the AFX

I have an unorthodox and like it but it make my belts squeek a little.

Stock is not a "UDP", its a crank pulley. Underdrive ,means that it is smaller than stock. (30%) I got a U-dox pulley and I love it. Its the best bolt-on that I've got. The cool part about the U-dox is that the center is steel and you bolt the rest onto the center. If you ever need to take it off, pulling steel is going to be a breeze compared to trying to pull alluminum.

Wow... I wish I had a stock underdrive pulley. What would you compare it to, though? I suppose that the stock crank pulley is underdriven compared to, say, an overdrive pulley...

As for the EBay pulleys, I would not trust an aluminium pulley pressed on an iron crank. Unlike metals are much more likely to gall, and ferrous/aluminium is notorious for that.

Hows that crankscraper work? I am thinking of getting one. Feel any difference?

If you can handle waiting the 1-2 weeks for the AFX I would honestly
say to go for it. I'm just about to order one myself, because based
on all of the posts regarding the AFX UDP, I have only read positive
things, and the price is only slightly more than stock. The way I see it is, whenever stock goes, if there is a decent aftermarket replacement that isn't too expensive, I'll go aftermarket.

AFX UDP gave up 12WHP and that's a fact

I got my AFX Pulley at the beginning of last week and I hooked it up right away (I took the time to also do some other mods - like <A> One of those eBay's CAI's (from ProCarParts.com - perfect fit- no problems so far) and <B> XtremeRS Solid Front Motor Mount (Thanxs Matt!)...

Man! My car feels so different now ! Didn't have any problems with the pulley installation at all, although it took me about 4-5 hours to install everything. And... I'm a little skeptical about my air filter since my new CAI goes all the way to the bottom... I'm wondering what will happen on a rainy day.

Anyway... I really want to Thank everyone for their support and all of you who have helped me along the way ! Thank You Guys ! :thumbsup
