7149, Regrinding Cams Questions ...

Ok, I want to buy stock cams and have them regrinded to something better. What should I have them ground to?

I found this for (i think) crower cams for our car:
#0010 Street Performance
Range Idle to 6500 RPM's
Intake Duration 242@006 Lift .354 inch
Exhaust Duration 242@.006 Lift .354 inch

the next after that is nitrous grind and then full drag grind. Do you think I need a different specification for a daily driver like mine or do you think I can go a little more drastic than this without it screwing my idle too much?

Also, does it mean anything if my car is an auto?

And one more thing, what other modifitications could I possibly need to do to the car to install these cams if any? Whats this i hear about shims and lifters and shit?

-Nick

If you are auto, getting cams might not be your best idea. By changing the cam profile all you are really doing is moving the power band up into the higher rpm area. If you move your power band up and your tranny does not allow you to utilize this power it really would not do too much to help. With an auto you focus more on the midrange power than the peak hp that vendors so enjoy using to sell their products.

Not to mention your idle will suck, and probably stall a lot like mine does due to the ported and milled head (i don't even have cams). It sounds like it has cams to most people though. Hopefully its a bad o2 that's making my idle worse, because a car without cams shouldn't idle like mine does.

I would have to agree, for an auto turbo or supercharger. All motor just wouldn't work right.

A small shot of nitrous would work wonders on an auto though. I think it is probably the best power option short of swapping the tranny out for a manual.

i suppose you can make them same spec, not sure, but the regrinds have to be regrinded every so often(?)

Crower can regring your stock cams to change the specs on them. They take metal off the bottom of the lobes and you have to shim the lifters to make up for the metal that was removed. If you find a company that makes billet cams you are going to make more HP with them because they are able to make ANY spec. There is a limit to what you can do with regrinds.

Speaking of regrinds, Niclipse, are you going to buy my stock cams or did you change your mind about cams with A/T? Let me know cause I would like to get rid of them ASAP and there are some others that and interested in them.
