Im still runing into a few problems with my current setup, the car runs strong but i still dont have full power. I can hear the car wanting to go, but it just cant haul its ass along with it. My setup as of right now consists of:

aem cai
hump removed from tb
.050 mill on the head
gutted cat
gst catback
ngk wires
ngk plugs gapped to .042
fidanza gears set to -3 exhaust +4 intake

What can i do here guys, ive tried different settings with the plugs and gears but i cant seem to come up with the right combo. I will be switching out the head with a stocker pretty soon, but for now i need some input on this situation. Am i not doing something right? Im thinking about replacing the plug wires, i bought them about a year ago. The plugs are new, bought them two weeks ago and installed them the same day. Im going to keep asking questions until the problem is solved!

you can always set the gears back to 0 and see what she does. goodluck.

I think your cam gear settings is what's hurting you. Since you milled the head, putting the gears at "0" still is not perfect timing. Anytime you mill the head, cam timing gets retarded, so you should at least have both gears set to advace. .050 mill is quite a bit, but i'd start out with +2, +2 and see what hapens. You have your intake at -3 already, PLUS the retard from the mill..just way too much retard IMO..

Good advice.

I'd keep the exhaust at +2 because of the milled head, but I'd advance the intake to a +6 or +8 and see how that works.

Also,I don't see a SAFC. That will help too for tuning :)

well i was totally backwards with my settings..and thank you very much for the info, its exactly what i was looking for. My exhaust cam is set to -3, not the intake. My intake cam is set to +4. I'll mess with the settings on sunday, im working like hell until then. Thanks alot for the help

Ok...I was MR. N/A power all the way, no turbo!

I seriously have almost every bolt on there is for the 420a, and even did some internal work, crazy head port 3 angle valve job, ti valve springs, crower cams. Everything...I was lucky if I got 150 whp, it was cool, but I didn’t do it for me....So now im Mr. turbo all the way...lolol… I wanted to be in the 250 range :thumbsup

A big thing is those stupid Fidanza gears, I thought they were so bad ass....I bought them, and I had the same problem...I tried all kinds of settings, but my car never acted the same, it seemed as if it was messing with my power band in a BAD way...it felt like it wasn’t making the car go like it should. even after many many different settings

So tonight, my crazy turbo kit is finished, we put the motor back and and fired her up – when we were putting my motor back in- we put my STOCK gears back on, just from the first start I new that my problems were gone. See those gears, the notch is fucked up, its off from the stock placement, witch makes made (my car at least) run like shit...Now my little start up problems, gay ass idles problems (the motor was wiggling so much it was about to fall apart) all went away when I put my stock gears on...the car idled smoothly (as smooth as it gets with camshafts), the motor wasn’t wiggling around, it didn’t sound like it was about to die.

I no after the money you spent the last thing you want to do it take them off, maybe you you will have better luck then I, but I think your problem lies within those gears, I never liked them..but good luck man!
:thumbsup

well, the only thing is..i lined the gears up before i installed them and it looked as though they were right on with the stock gears. With the info given in this thread i can see why im running so badly, my cams are set entirely the wrong way.

I thiink timing is a biog deal with your set up. Tear thecrank pulley off and get the cran k dead on TDC hen line of the cam gears. No body can tell you exactly what will put your cam gearsd back to TDC mark, you are just going to have to tear in and work with it.

Another problem could be the extra compression is looking for more air, and the TB and intake just can't flow enough so you aren't taking full advantage of the compression. Also the GS-T exhaust is only 2" pipe, also a restriction.

set your cam gears to 4 degrees retard on the intake and 2 advance on the exhaust. That is what i put mine at and i got 8 hp at the dyno

yeah but is your head milled?

also, my compression was 185-190 all the way across. What do you think about the retard of the intake cam? Ive never thought of that

i milled the head 20/1000ths so if i where you i would retard the intake 6degrees cause you milled the head 50 right and 2 advance on the exhaust. I got 8hp at 6400rpm and 15hp at 7200. So try that see how you like it.
