71169, When ac is on rpms go down
Posted by eclipseman1999, Mar-21-04 12:58 PM
I turned on my ac today to see if it was all good and its not. When its on and I come to a stop light the car almost stalls and idles between 200 and 300 rpms. When the ac is off it idles around 500 600.So what is could be causing this?

sounds like your idle is a little low.

na there is something that is surposed to increase ur idle when ur ac is on due to extra drag on the motor same thing with ur ps when u turn it so far

The extra drag on the engines lowers idle, the ECU is suppose to compensate and raise idle. The IAC is the main tool used for this, I'd start there. And clean or replace your air filter if needed too.

Air filter should be good imo. It came out of my car when I got the shit ram. LOL. John and I cleaned the hell out of your intake mani, so I'm thinking it might be a good idea to pull the TB and check out that IAC. You don't want to try to remove it while the TBs in the car. PITA sir. PITFA. :P

^^agreed w/ all of the above. pulling the TB isnt hard by any measure, and cleaning the IAC is easy too.

dont rule out the alt. as a possibility...when the diodes start going bad all KINDS of wierd stuff will happen, lol. its unlikely, but still a posibility.

let us know if the iac is what it was because i have the same problem, except mine is when my car is stopped, and it doesnt happen ALL the time, some days it idles really well. so im stumped too

alright this is how it works when the air is turned on or the ps is turned so far it puts more drag on the motor causing the rpms to drop. So a signal is sent from the pcm to the IAC to increase idle so that the motor doesnt stall. ok if u have a meter disconect the motor and hook up a ohm meter and check the resistance between the two outside pins EX: 1 2 3 4 is how it should look u will test between 1 and 4. It should be 38-52 ohms at 68 degrees F and test 2 and 3 to each other. if it passes these clean ur iac good might be gunked up due to ur egr and stuff like that. hope this helps

Isn't 500-600 RPMS low. Mine idles at 800. *knock on wood*
