I installed my Built engine, Quaife LSD, and Clutchmaster stage IV....it started right up sounded good everything looked good untill we saw some oil leaking right by the crank position sensor....so we hoped that is what it was but it looks like the block is leaking right where the two halfs of the block meet. Anyone ever split the block with it still on the car?....

If that o-ring is not in between the block and the bedplate, you have to pull the engine back out. Sux0rs, I know, but required.

Pull the engine, flip it upside-down, pull the bed plate, clean the mating surfaces as best you can (as in spotless), reapply fresh anaerobic sealant *(double check the overhaul manual for where it goes and how much so you don't have to do this again), reassemble, reinstall. I think you also need to wait a little while before starting the car for the stuff to cure too, but I'm not sure. :shrug You can use a razor blade, if necessary, to remove the old sealant, but make sure you keep the blade upright and do not make any gouges, scrapes, or scores in the mating surfaces!

Is anaerobic sealant the best thing to use I believe that is what I used the first time (I built the motor over 6 months ago.) I asked a Chyrsler Tech today and he told me to use Torque Cure Gasket Eliminator (Mopar Part Number 4773257) It is green.

There is this thick red colored sealant that nissan uses on everything from block,heads,oil pumps ect.. And I have heard it works better than the green anaerobic sealant.The nissan stuff is as thick as toothpasted would be.You might want to try that also.

The torque cure stuff the mopar tech recommended is more than likley the mopar equivalent to anaerobic. You can buy that stuff for about $50 from Satan or you can go to napa and get the loctite stuff. It will say on the tube that it is an anaerobic sealant good for sealing gaps up to like .010" or something to that effect. Sorry but I'm not sure what this toothpaste stuff is. Granted, the stuff I used on mine was raspberry colored (as you an see in the own3d pic above) and is the correct stuff. DO NOT TRY USING RTV OR YOUR BEARINGS MIGHT FAIL OR SOME OTHER HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECT. Make sure you get either the stuff from Mopar or the specific anaerobic sealant from napa. It's with the rest of the loctite stuff, you just have to read teh backs of the packages very closely imo.

I got the Mopar stuff for free I work at a Chrysler Dealer. Also not to be repetitive but why can't you reseal this without removing the engine....it looks like it would be possible.

Before you go pulling the motor out again, just double check to see EXACTLY where the oil is leaking from. Oil can migrate all over the block, and just because you see oil in a spot, doesnt mean its leaking right there. Just check it thuroghly..unless you can actually see oil coming out of there right infront of your eyes..

I am 99% sure where the leak is coming from. I just want to try to reseal the bedplate while it is on the car and it looks like you can do it....just wondering if it is possible.

It is not. I can't remember why, but I'm 99% sure that you have to pull it to take the bedplate off. Just be sure, like xtreme said, that this is defeinitely where teh leak is before you yank it again. ;)

Anyone else know for sure if you can or can't drop the bedplate while the engine is in the car.....It looks like I can do it.

There are two transmission bolts that go through the bedplate to the block. Also i beleive that the oil pump needs to come off to seperate the bedplate from the block.

Well fella's just so you know you can take off the bedplate with the engine in the car....I did it today. The leak was from me forgeting to install the rubber o ring gasket. But I got the car all back together and it feels great....If someone email's me with instructions on how to post pics on here I have lots of them I just don't know how to post them.

I hardly think doing more work than you have to builds character. I just think it should be known for future reference that you can drop the bedplate if need be while the engine is still in the vehicle. Besides I couldn't wait to drive my car and saved myself lots of time and energy....I built enough character puting the engine in the first time.
