ok a friend of mine needs some help with his engine rebuild but cant ask because he isnt registered and isnt able to since we are down in that aspect. anyway, here is his question. what tool you use the to remove the oil pump pulley the one the timing belts goes around. any help is appreciated.

you mean the crank sproket. and you use the chrysler harmonic balancer puller.

a small 3 jaw puller will work. you can rent them at autozone.

NO!!

Do NOT put a 3 jaw puller on that pulley! it is not designed for it and will very likely break. Rent a harmonic balancer puller, find the right thread pitch bolts, and pull it off.

absolutely true, do not ever use a 3 jaw puller on the hamonic dampener... use the tool from autozone that is a harmonic dampener puller, I cant remember the number its like 27019 or somethin like that (its not 27139!!!), get the m6x1.25 or whatever the threads are, I cant remember, get them like 2"long, and use that, its a bitch to do until you realize how it works, but its not that hard, just a pita..g'luck man

He's talking about the crank sprocket, not the accessory drive pulley / dampner.

i think he is talking about the oil pump pulley....i made my own tool...just get a thick piece of steel and drill the three holes in it that line up with the holes in the pulley...then find bolts and youve got yourself a pulley remover

I didnt mean to put dampener, I meant pulley:

I dont think he is talking about the crank pulley, b/c he said the one the timing belt goes around... that's why I said NO 3 jaw puller, the steel w/ the 3 holes is a good idea, but how did you put pressure against the crank to pull it off? I'm guessin it was a square piece of steel w/ 4 holes, that's the only way I can see it happenin, but let me know b/c it'd be nice to have one that works great everytime so you dont have to rig it up and such.. thanks peace

you want a stering wheel puller (bolt type) and purchase the correct size thread bolts from Home Depot to thread them, they will ned to be hardened otherwise I guarantee you will snap them

^^^^^^this works, I know from exerience, It is a craftsman tool BTW

i just got a piece of paper, poked out the holes in the center of the three bolt holes on the crank pulley, then used about a 1/4" thick piece of steel (i used a longer rectangle so id have something to hold on to)...then drilled the three holes as precise as possible, found three bolts long enough to catch enough threads..i used alen head bolts.....then when the bolts would bottom out, i would put either washers, or a bigger nut between the crank and the tool, this would allow more room to pull the pulley...worked great both times ive had to use it.
