70684, symptoms of a bad starter? Posted by FuSi0N, Mar-15-04 04:59 AM
Just wondering if any of you guys had to deal with a bad starter, and if so what did you notice before it completly died out.

It stopped starting the car when I turned the key. It would do this intermittantly for several months, especially when the car was still hot.

kinda' on topic, but kinda' off too...does Kragen still check starters? Is there anyway to test them still on the car?
Mine has ^^^ (the same)symptoms...can't start after it's been ran for awhile, or it's hot outside

I found that if I fooled around with the wires that go between the electrical connector and the starter motor itself while the engine was hot, it would suddenly work again if I messed with them enough. I guess when it was hot, the connection was coming loose inside somewhere.
Either way, a new starter is only $50 or so, and an easy swapped part... just replace it and see if it goes away. I kicked myself for living with it for 2 months.

Thanks guys for your input. It looks like my starter is crapping out on me.

My car takes a long time cranking in the summer when it's really hot. Is this the same thing you're experiencing?

I've had my car for 3 summers now and my car always cranked at the first throw of the ignition. My problem started early last December, first time during a cold morning start. Now the problem shows itself after the car has been used during trips, not all the time but it's becoming more intermittantly. Like today was one of those cold mornings and the car started like a champ, and I even made several trips to get the engine hot enough to replicate the problem, but no dice, the damm car started up normally.
