I found these on the AZ Solo2 forums. It looks like at most of the events they have a 93dB limit for the exhaust. I'm not sure how they test the levels, but I'm pretty sure Daisy is a bot loud. I know I could just get a GST rear section considering my power goals for the next year or so, but I like the way Daisy sounds and would want something that would keep the tone at least close to what it was. Anyone heard of these? Know anything about them? Good? Bad? Ugly? Thanks!

How It Works: The Vortex Insert Cone, installed near the exit of the header collector or muffler outlet, provides a large friction area to reflect and dissipate sound energy, thus reducing the dB level. The open area of the cone is actually greater than the area of the collector or exhaust pipe, thus reducing a backpressure condition. Because no significant backpressure has been introduced, the engine is still able to use the scavenge ability of a good header to create horsepower and torque. Dyno and track testing show significant noise reduction with little or no power loss.

they do however sell glasspacks and resonators that and whatnot for stangs' that guarantee to lower the db significantly without messin up 'da flow'

i'd be interested in something like this though, its nice to have exhaust that sounds sick but sometimes it can get the best of you (im sure 99% of you will agree with me there)

I'd rather put something in the rear part of the exhaust (muffler) than having to put something near the collector/dp. A simple baffle would do wonders and be alot easier to install. Also, the glasspack idea is a good one. Goodluck!

buy the old rs*r exmag, supposidly the quiestest exhaust on the market, but still flows nice...from what i hear the greddy evo is pretty quiet too...i dont like the idea of stuffing my pipes with anything...

Another vote for resonator/glasspack. Made my exhaust a lot more mellow/less raspy. Perfect for when I see a cop ahead, i just put along making very little noise... before I'd have to be completely coasting/making no noise because of the raspiness...!!

Also totally eliminated the backfiring I'd get when letting off the gas

I've seen those insert things in Summit for years... there are ones that you can drop in right after your header... and presumably remove whenever you want to be loud.. sounds very restrictive

I know they sound restrictive, but I figured that if they were recommended and used by people who actually race their cars, that it might be a good idea. :shrug

Has anyone found an actual 3" glasspack? All I could find in 3" was the dynomax "race muffler" and it didn't quiet it down very much.

yes brian those work very well. my friend has a firehawk with a 502, and we put them at the end of his header collector.....he doesnt run any mufflers, and the sound actually isnt too bad. dynoed before and after, and honestly, there was little to no difference. a fluctuation in hp of maybe .4-.5, but thats most likely always going to happen. id say get it.

I don't think a glasspack can ever do the function of a good muffler though. Don't glasspacks just get rid of certain resonant frequencies, whereas a muffler actually lessens the intensity of all sounds? To get a truly quiet exhaust I think we need a muffler above all else. My coworker has a v6 honda with dual exhaust and I can't hear anything from the pipes when it's at idle. wish my car was like that - I am really wanting to ditch my magnaflow cat back, I'm tired of hurting ears anywhere between 2500-3500

actually erik, glasspacks DO quiet down the exhaust, they even guarantee it will by a certain dB with certain brands. a lot of v8 guys are big on glasspacks. and YES magnaflow on a NA 2gnt sounds RASSSSSPYYYY, ew. get something different, i bet you money you'd like the apexi WS catback

it's not really raspy at all, it's just damn low and loud. it's pretty cool sounding tho' from the outside
