If I was you I'd just spend 9-10 grand on a stick 97 GS and then get a stage II star turbo... Same price, more HP... but you lose the AWD - but I dont think its THAT important anyway, unless you live in alaska or something.

Never ever buy an auto.
This is coming from an auto driver. The auto eclipse is the sluggiest pos I have ever seen.
I have heard a story that a girl ran her auto GS-x at the track and ran consistent 17.1's
That can be you!

I'm thinking either tranny swap(but high HP= boom in alot of cases b/c dog teeth and non-pressurized parts can't keep up) or Get going on major HP and then stick a high stall converter in there and have some great traction and 60 ft times w/o having your buddies picking up what's left of your transmission. Keep in mind fellas that big blocks rely on autos and a slipping clutch methods. PLus even if you did want to go the manny way you could easily aquire the parts and shops to do it cheaper. In al honesty I've ridden in 2 different (very well moddified) 5 sp. GSX's and I feel that the 4g trans isn't really that snappy.

if you don't like auto's, you probly will not be happy with the auto, if you don't mind auto's, you could be just as fast. The auto's don't go through clutches every year ( i know, this isn't always the case, but it is s/times) If you look on dsmtalk, the people with auto's do just as well just about as those with 5-spds and similar mods. The mitsu trannies can power brake higher and you can get some parts from dunrite for a lot less than levelten charges for pts clutches.
