Did u dyno your car in 5th gear, or do u have an auto??

70597, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by My9t5Talon, Mar-13-04 11:53 PM
it was a type-r del sol...that's why!!!

dont those numbers seem awfully low to you guys... doesnt a stock eclipse put down 110-115 ?

I'm a 5 speed, and I don't know what gear it was in. The Type R Delsol was an abandoned project because I found my eclipse. I bought it cheap so I can go all motor with little cashflow problems. I took it for a base run so I know what I have to start. I have JE Import Performance hunting me down a spare motor so I can get some work done. I talked to Jason from Fast Fabrications, and he's going to have Shaun Carlson of Team Mopar do the headwork for me. But if you don't want to see some new Dyno pulls for every part added thats fine...lol. I don't bullshit.

man there's gotta be something terribly wrong with your engine to pull off 100WHP and being MT. i could expect that from AT, but not MT. did you do an oil change, sparkplugs, all the basic maintainence before you dynoed? i would also do a compression test to see if your pistons are ok. you should be atleast 117-120whp stock. either that or that dyno machine is not calibrated correctly or something.

new oil, plugs, belts, coil, wires, bunch of new sensors....compression is dead on. I'm thinking my throttle cable wasn't at the right amount of tension, I adjusted it yesterday, and already seems better???? Could this cause this drop? AC will come off this week as long as I can get a belt for it. I believe mitsu offers one for power steering w/o AC. Part # M0466 8223

Looks like the dyno was done in 5th gear. Look at the speed vs rpm.

70701, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by 95dsmrsproj, Mar-15-04 09:43 AM
should it be done in a different gear? What kind of difference does it come up with? Thanks.

70703, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by 95 silver gs, Mar-15-04 10:27 AM
All dynos are different. And Barametric pressure and all that bull shit factors in. If u put one car on one dyno and that same car on a different dyno they will spit out different times not by 20 horse but there will be some vast differences. Al depends what loads they run and all that.

70705, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by DarKReaLity, Mar-15-04 10:31 AM
also the preferred dyno NA is in 3rd gear.
|
70707, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by VX100, Mar-15-04 10:42 AM
The first dyno ru I did with my car came to 102 whp, which I knew was a low reading. It was jsut the dyno.
It REALLY makes more sense to use a dyno to tune the car and see what improvements you can get, rather than just aiming for as high of a HP number as possible, because they all read different so you can't be sure if you're really getting the right number.

yeah i've heard like running on DynoJets compared to Mustang Dynos, and they're like a 10-15WHP difference. but even though, 20WHP loss on this one? i woudn't go there again. if it was me i'd find a dynojet facility to tune. not that one.

70711, RE: 1st Dyno Runs! Posted by ez, Mar-15-04 11:29 AM
My dyno when I was bone stock was 115 at the wheels (4th gear pull). granted all dynometer's are different, but something's wrong IMO

I found out that this was done in 4th gear... I looked at your charts VX100 in the main pages, and I guess you're right...with all those modifications it doesn't make sense...maybe I should try a different kind of dyno next time, but then again, I should be able to see accurate results if I keep using the same DYNO right? I'm still waiting for some parts, but I will DYNO again in about a month to see what it looks like w/o AC,PS and some more bolt on's.

Yes. The dyno is best used as a tool for tuning and checking modifications, to see how much more power you can get out of the car. It is not as good as a "my hp is bigger than your hp" measurement due to the amount each dyno can vary from one to another.
