OK, I feel really stupid for asking this, but... I'm trying to put my rod bearings into the (Eagle) rod to check clearances w/ the crank and I can't get the stupid thing apart. I finally got the ARP bolts out, but the two halves won't come apart and I don't want to damage it. What am I doing wrong?

tap it against something. Doesn't have to be hard. No reason it shouldn't come apart.

Pretty sure you can tap them on a flat surface like a wooden table top and they will snap apart. It's from the shot-peening or whatever they do to give them that textured finish. WATCH OUT! THE EDGES ARE EXTREMELY FUCKING SHARP AT THS POINT!!!! :P

Just didn't want to ruin something w/o using it first!

Put the cap half of the rod in a vise with aluminum jaws, or something so you don't damage the rod, back the bolts out about .500 then tap the bolts with a hammer.

Is this how you're supposed to do it to get it out of the block once it's installed as well? Just got to thinking about that after reading this.

Once its in the block, you remove the rod bolts, and pull them 75% out and then squeeze them together, giving yourself a little handle. Then wiggle them and curse alot and they'll come off.

the two halves are held together by some dowels, they are a pretty tight press fit, i just put in a screwdriver into one of the holes on the lower bearing cap and pulled sideways, the cap will come up on one side and you'll see what i'm talking about, you can probably pull it apart with your fingers from there, if you have a reasonable finger grip that is

I back the bolts out, put a socket and extension on the bolts and then tap the extension untill they sepperate.
