Reason I'm even asking = one of my FAL's just siezed up, and temp gauge reaches about 3/4 of the way up if I sit for more than like 10-15 minutes... Also heats up fairly rapidly when I leave car/let turbo timer count down..

Is there any reason to get this thermostat? I'm in california, doesn't get BITTERLY cold very often (so I probably dont have to go for the 180*)

By my logic this would only .. open up a little sooner, then I'd still have my same overheating issues...

Or should I just save my 16.95?

Long term plans (by the end of the month) I'll have a Fluidyne radiator and hopefully this will solve my problem (whether I replace the fan or not)

Look at it this way - can it really hurt anything? Nope. It's a worthy investment.

I am in AZ and put one in last summer because i was having some slight heat issues. Hasnt overheated since. In fact during the 'winter' cruising on the freeway i can watch the temp needle drop.

I had mine and for over 2 years and the only downside is that on cold days it takes forever to warm up which means worse gas mileage. But I live in the desert so I needed it, coupled that with the twin fan mod I still overheat. It's been a battle with my starion FMIC. I've tried switching the coolant to the orange, water wetter and watering down the coolant and I still got probs. I'm gonna wrap my downpipe and see if that'll work.

and would a 160 benefit me more since I live in hot ass San Antonio,Tx (it hot compared to delaware ok?)

160 degree thermostat and water wetter is whats on my talon, she loves bein cool. it DEFINATELY works too. also i think it might affect the injector pulse duration because the coolant is colder and the coolant temp sensor sends feedback to the ECU, but i dont know....just a guess

ive had mine for quite awhile now, one of the first things i did actually.

also running 160stat and waterwetter, yes its fun watching the needle never climb, lol. howell automotive sells them for i think $12.99 or so. it will coem with a rubber gasket surrounding it, thats for the neon. remove that rubber gasket, and youre all set.

good info silver :thumbsup, no one has mentioned that little useless rubber thing they come with.

any input on injector pulse duration with the lower stat though?

I am not sure why some of you have over heating issues. I live in Phoenix w/run4cvr and I can let my car sit for minutes and the needle will never rise above middle.

a fluidyne will fix all overheating issues lol. it takes a WHILE for my car to warm up now.

edit: this pic is forever and a day old, but :/ all i found in my directory @ work... you should not have a prob with the downpipe... closest thing to it is the upper radiator hose.

how do you mount your fans? my current stock radiator has the through-cote mounts... which I've heard are bad/dangerous...

did you just shorten the radiator hose to make it fit? or is it bent badly?

I got it from RRE, they added those when they relocated the necks for the 2gnt motor i believe. The radiator hose fits fine, just like normal...

i think its b/c the front mount intercooler blocks alot of air and the added heat from the turbo...

Doesn't happen. Warmup enrichment cuts off well below 160*.

thats exactly what i thought. the ECU sees anything past 160 as operating temp

so would this not be a good thing to purchase living in ohio (temps still in the 20s-40s and still snowing)? ive never had a problem with my temp even in the summer, but how would it affect the car in the 20-40* weather? take for ever to warm up?

Isn't the install pretty easy? I mean, you can go with the 180 one during the cold season, then switch over to the 160 in hotter seasons can't you?

it's right behind the "thing" that the radiator hose goes into... too lazy to check haynes to get exact wording) looks very easy to install

though you will have to drain a bit of coolant obviously

ordered 160* last night i guess ill see if it helps
