Because, i was driving home earlier today through some rough interstate roads here in TN. First I noticed coolent like smell inside my car doing around 75+mph. Then all the sudden I herd a loud grinding noise and see smoke from the front. I slowly pulled off and I tried to accelerate some, but it made the grinding noise worse. I pulled over and turned my car off. As soon as I pulled out, I can smell it really bad and see a big puddle of coolant on the ground. Opened my hood and it's everywhere! All the hoses looked fine and radiater stuff looked fine, BUT the T-belt looked like shit!! The ribbed side looked warned down and I can see belt shit everywhere.

So, what would happend if water pump dies? Is it strong enought to fuck up my T-belt? Or is it soemthing else? Could my internal be fucked because of the T-belt? Is the water pump easy to fix? I've changed my T-belt almost once a year now so I can do that, but never messed with water pump. any info would help. Thanks!

That exact same thing happened to me about 2 months ago.

It made this horrible grinding noise ans steam was pouring out....then I drove to my dads shop and by the time I got there almost all the coolant was gone.....ended up changing everything incliding TB.

Thats not good that your belt was chewed up.....mine looked pretty good for 90,000 miles on her but I changed it for sure when the pump went.

Was it simple? What did you change? Did it damage anything?

if it locked up, it could strip teeth off the belt.

When they die, the bearing usually goes bad and they leak, grind against the block, or against the housing. Either way, you need to tear it down and check/replace it.

Ok, I'll check. I've been checking many pumps right now and found a "high flow performance water pump". It says that it flows better than stock pumps. Is there a difference? What are some good pumps for our cars?
Also, I'm thinking about changing out my radiator cap and thermostat. How do I decide which one is better? Like the radiator cap pressure ratings and thermostat temp. ratings? I was told to run cooler thermostat so it would open at lower temp and cool the engine, but is that true? and I have no clue about radiator cap pressure thing. I'm basing these information based on Howell's site. I guess the whole reason behind it is to run your car cooler, but would that apply for any car? such as NA vs. Turbo/Nitrous? Also, would the water pump running constantly have any effect on the engine? such as taking power?

I've always run stock. Doesn't matter.

Yes. I run the 160* 'stat from Howell. Worth $12, for sure.

Oops, I ment by the "high flow water pump". I just didn't understand how can it flow better. I just assumed maybe it spins faster or soemthing. Like a UDP concept. Smaller rotation with different belt type thing

Tell us more abour the After market water pump because im not believing it. Just get a stocker. If the pump circulates too fast dont you think that it might not allow enough time for the radiator to get rid of the heat?

It's the blade/fin design on it I imagine. Kind of like compressor wheels on a turbo can be upgraded or changed.

what do you guys think about rediator caps? How do I decide what's better? I have no clue about those pressure ratings. Is it better to have a lower pressure to get more movement in the coolant system with the overflow tank? Or a higher pressure one to take away movement between the overflow tank?
I need to change it anyways because I've noticed that it's leaking slowly from there.

Water boils at higher temperatures as pressure increases. The more pressure in your system, the more heat the coolant itself can absorb. I run a 16psi cap.

You can play tricks with the housing and the fin design to get different flow.

Stock cap is 16psi as I recall.

no need for a special cap, unless your going for looks. i have a greddy one on there b/c someone send my friend two. they make one w/ a relief valve on top of it that would be handy if you needed to get in there after a shut down but i don't see the need for a higher pressure cap if your not autocrossing/road racing on a very hot day. or if your turbo. i'd very highly recommend the 160 therm from howell, money well spend. takes a little longer to heat up to regular temp on cold days but theres nothing wrong w/ cooler temps in your engine. you kinda need the pump to be part of the tb assembly unless you want to fab a beltless pump system..lol. its not robbing any power thats not needed. you see the hp gains from the udp mostly from the lighter material used. if you want to gain some hp then get rid of your ac system, it weighs about 40 lbs and robs a shit ton of power. ;)
