When you install an oil pressure guage does it take the place of the stock oil pressure sender? The reason I ask is because I think my pressure sender is leaking and a oil pressure sender costs the same as a oil pressure guage.

ive seen instances where people have replaced there pressure switch with a sending unit for a gauge, or T'd it to use both. T-ing it probably wouldnt help in your situation if you are doing this in an attempt to stop the leak, so you would have to just replace it with the sending unit. Not positive if it just screws in or if you need some sort of adapter tho.

If you just want to stop the leak remove the factory sending unit, put teflon tape or paste on it and thread it back in.

If you want to install a gauge you can replace T-in with the factory sending unit, it only controls the factory idiot light for low oil pressure.

As in if you replace the OE switch with a sending unit for an aftermarket guage, you get to drive around with the low oil pressure dummy light on the dash lit up all the time. Just Get a T fitting and thread the OE and aftermarket one into it. I am pretty sure it is 3/8 NPT.

The oil light will not be lit if you unplug the sending unit, or take it out fully. The sending unit is a normally open circuit, and it becomes closed when oil pressure gets too low, and turns on the light. By unplugging the sending unit, the circuit remains open like normal. I ditched mine at the rebuild.

nope.

btw, if you DO have an oil light, you can always pull the bulb out of the gauge cluster

If you have an oil light, your engine is most likely toast due to the oil pressure/level being WAY too low. In other words, the stock oil light is useless. Like Matt, I ditched mine as well. I only run an aftermarket oil pressure guage. At least that guage/sensor is useful!

Hey is the thread of an autometer gauge sending unit the same as the oem sending unit's thread?
