69758, 10 second rs Posted by xtrickedeclipsex, Mar-01-04 07:37 PM
It’s great, the people at Hahn, gata love them...The only people who really TEST, and SHOW that our cars can withstand power, and put 4g63's to shame...
I duno if anyone knew but they make 10 second runs consistently now, with these mods
Heres the post, it put a smile on my face =)
“Yes, the transmissions in these cars are amazingly durable, but not unbreakable...after over a hundred 12, 11 and 10 second passes, this one did finally fail a ring and pinion. I am not bothered by this, as Hondas running similar power to weight ratios typically get only a few passes before the trans is junk. We have also run these same transmissions in high nine-second Drag Neons with success.
The transmission we use is a unique piece in that it is derived from a Neon SOHC unit. We installed this option in order to enjoy a taller final drive ratio (3.55 vs. 3.94) to reduce wheelspin, as well as a taller fifth gear to reduce highway RPM.
The list of mods is long, but not radical:
HRC Stage IV Turbosystem with a few options: 20G-H turbo, 3" downpipe, 4" cold air inlet HRC / NX direct port N20 Crower rods / JE pistons Crane valvesprings and retainers Crane adjustable cam sprockets AFX 55 mm throttle body Stage V Driveshaft Shop axles HRC / Clutchmasters twin-disc clutch and aluminum flywheel Thermal 3" exhaust Crane ignition Custom 4130 roll bar 5-point harness Custom flywheel scattershield AGX shocks 26 x 10 M/T slicks on Weld wheels Prothane bushings B&M short shifter
What's particularly cool about it is that it remains streetable, just passed its emission test, and can be easily reproduced with readily available components!”
And its held up on these 10 second runs! W00t now

ok leme go hop in my car, maybe ill run tens now!
lol
but really tho, its awsome to no we CAN do it.....with about 8 grand:thumbsup
they had an eclipse tranny, stock but the clutch for EVER, then it broke so they tried the Neon SOHC tranny...
its far from all motor, and he said he used a 100 shot of NX...damn...still 10's...its hard to belive.... there is hope yet :cheers

4g63's still dominate, but it's nice to be close to them with a 420a and wink.
Uhh I think most all of the high hp 420a's have went through a few trannies.. high hp anything would drive a stock tranny in the ground.
I like how Bill left out the fuel mods ;-)

guys i dont think it says he used a SOHC tranny but just took the final drive and 5th gear from them and put it in the tranny we have. Thats how I understand it.
either way thats awesome for a stock tranny

Yeah I want to know the fuel mods, unless they are a given since he mentioned a HRC Stage IV kit.

He posted that at DSMTalk.

And yes, he's talking about a mix of an eclipse tranny and a sohc neon tranny, and no, don't go run out and do that unless you are creating massive amounts of power to take advantage of the longer gearing.

I plan to do this this summer at the same time I get a quaife lsd...ill make enough power to take use of the longer gearing, and 2nd if you are having traction problems then the gearing will help, plus having the engine run at a lower rpm on the highway should save on gas

even if your rear main isn't leaking, i would go ahead and replace it... it's like 5 bucks...

i think i can do it with another $2500. i need the Quaife, the whole 8-injector mod, 660cc's secondary, stage 3 axles, Spec stage 3 clutch w/ aluminum flywheel, some slicks, and some practice at the track.

69799, RE: 10 second rs Posted by DarkOne, Mar-02-04 09:44 AM
Don't forget the 150 shot of gas.
A stage 3 anything clutch is not going to cut it.

yeah you're probably right, Stage 3 won't cut it. even though right now, i'm just looking at 400WHP and being streetable with it. maybe in the future i'll take that route when i making big bucks. it's all about the money really.

69818, RE: 10 second rs Posted by fly1, Mar-02-04 02:19 PM
If you plan to do drag runs and laying down 300+ whp, a stage 3 clutch won't hold too long. My CM stage 3 lasted only one season. It holds OK up to a 50% throttle in 1st and 2nd, but once I put the pedal to the metal, the rpm's shoot to redline real fast.

69835, RE: 10 second rs Posted by BlueMoonEclipse, Mar-02-04 06:51 PM
Can you say neon 3 speed? i sure can...you can buy 2 on ebay for 400/600is(i can buy 2 here localy for 600 easy) and have one running while you rebuild the other (i was planning on buying a spare 604....now i think i might go the 670 route, costs the same for 2 670's localy than it does for 1 604)
:)

DarKReaLity: I gata question... What are your fuel mods? What size injectors?, Whats your fuel pump, FPR? What do you do to contorl fuel , or is it stock just off the stock ecu.. hahn said they use some power fuel module, just wondering what you use?
thanks for the info!

What's the HRC/clutchmasters twin disk clutch? Sounds interesting, didn't know there was such a thing for 420a's. :)

I was under the assumption that Hahn's RS was running a CM stg 4

well i used to be SFMU w/ 1:1 disk,Delphi 50lb injectors (which are sold) and, SAFC, but it's not going to cut it passed 450 crank HP. you need atleast to have a fuel volume of 760cc at 85% duty cycle to handle that much. so now i'm going 8 injectors since to me it's a better solution other than a standalone system. but currently i went back to my FMU 6:1 changing to 4:1 soon, my old ACCEL 36lb injectors, and i'm taking off my SAFC so i can get funds for the new mod.
