Looking at your engine from the front of the car. On the front of the block, towards the driver's side, there is a small, silver someting or other. Haha. It's a cylinder maybe a half inch in diameter, three-quarters tall, and it has a clip around it that it uses a single 10mm bolt to attach itself to the block. There is a single wire running off of it which plugs into the harness over there where it goes past the CMS.

We've taken to calling it the "Flux Capacitor" out of sheer ignorance as to it's acutal purpose, but I was curious if anyone knew exactly what this is and what it's for.

Ignition noise suppressor. it's basically a capacitor the ignition system ground through to filter out electrical noise.

So, since it needs to ground out, the valve cover would be a dumb place to bolt it, correct? (I'm sure it would still run, however it is not ideal.)

Finally, if I was standing there with you looking at it and I told you it was a microphone the ECU uses to "listen" for knock, and that you could tap it with your finger to test it out, what would you do at that moment?

You can bolt the noise supressor capacitor to anything with a good ground.

The knock sensor is on the other side of the engine, and tapping it won't do anything. Even though it is just a microphone, the ECU only responds to a certain frequency from the knock sensor.

Ever since I got my car that little noise supressor compacitor thingy has been bolted to my valve cover, to one of those little holes on the driver side.

Yeah, its a noise suppressor, but it also helps keep voltage more constant and "filtered" througout that wiring circuit. If you look at the wire, its a black/red wire, which is the main wire that sends positive power to almost every sensor on the car..The motor would run fine without it, but its best to have it in there, and grounded well.

WOW, I always thought it was the knock sensor.. I dont think I have a knock sensor on my engine then. At least I didnt see it with the motor swap. Any one have a picture of the knock sensor?

Knock sensor is the one in the middle of the block, to the right of the oil pressure sensor.

what the hell is connected to your oil pressure sensor? or is that for a gauge? I guess that would make sense, sorry maybe I'm gay. just looked neat when I saw it and also for the noise dampener sensor thing, I have my mounted to my firewall.. hope that isnt a bad thing.

That would be the oil feed line for his turbo.
