Sup guys.
I went out today and took off the battery and etc.
And I double checked my speed sensor connection. it's tight. I even unplug it and plug it back, but no response.

SO I guess I hvae to replace it.
Is there any place I can get it cheap? how much will it cost usually from dealer? Thanks alot.

Also, I searched and as some of you said, about the gear that it will fall into the tranny when removing the speed sensor... if that happens, then how can I take out the speed sensor safely?

I am having the same problem that you are right now. Everything looks great, but no speedo. Do you have a flat pin connector or the round pin connector on your speedo? That is something you will want to make sure you have right when buying one. The way I get the speedo sensor out is just by turning the oblong section that sticks out of the tranny and slowly pulling up on it. Once it is out of the tranny, the gear will still be in there. Just be very careful when pulling the gear out so it doesn't slip off of the sensor. If you happen to find where we can get a new sensor, please let me know.

so you mean the gear is on the speed sensor?
So nothing inside the tranny will fall off or got loose if the sensor is out correct?

Or should I just don't drive the car?

Ther is a gear on the spead sensor itself and there is on on the differential in the trans. It is possible to chew up the gear in the trans but you don't need to worry about it until you replace the speed sensor. Since you are getting a CEL it will be the sensor and not the gear on the diff.

No the new sensor should come with the gear for the sensor. After you take out your old sensor you will know what the gear looks like.

Yes that is a stupid question. I drove my car without a working speed sensor for over a year. The only thing that will be slightly affected is drop down idle (when you are moving but with the clutch out and foot off the gas ... ie coasting). But it won't affect driveability unless you have a wierd cam setup.

Ok, so the car may actually die when you take it out of gear and let the clutch out when coming to a stop. Is that what you are saying??? I have been having that problem lately, and I didn't know why, but my speedo sensor is bad too. I never got a CEL though. I did have the speedo sensor out yesterday and checked the gear on the diff, and it felt ok, and the speedo gear was ok. Is it possible to have a bad speedo gear and not have a CEL???

Yes. I think i read back somewhere that the ecu reads the speed sensor then plays with the IAC when your coming to a stop to prevent it from dieing. Thats what mine does...i swapped it to a 5 speed and havent wired in the speed sensor so it will die out on me sometimes. Change the sensor and you should be all good.

no speed sensor will cause you to stall out when coming to a stop. Happens to me every day, many times. I couldnt find a speed sensor from anyone other then second hand, and i replaced it and i still have issues, so im thinking its the plug, which is corroded anyway, but in order to get a new plug i need to buy a whole new ecu harness according to chrysler. SO i may just find a junked 2g and nab that one.

I got a speed sensor from a Dodge dealer today, it was like $60 but they had it in stock. It fixed my problem though, the car seems to run alot better and I have a working speedo now. The speedo sensor came with an extra clip to wire into the factory harness. My clip is actually broke, but I didn't feel like putting the new one on.

what was the part number on it? did it come with the gear on the speed sensor. i just picked one up at the chrysler deal but it dont have the gear on it. its was $50.

No gear, it was part number 5015380AA

if your wire colors are the same match up as follows:

New harness-Old harness
Red         Yellow
Black/blue  Black/green(?)
White/red   Yellow/white

That was how i wired it up and it works, the yellow wires from
the old harness are real close, but if you look close you can
see the white line in one. Hopefully your colors are the same.

i've had a few problems with speed sensors back in the day...

#1 was when my EGR tube started melting things. the wires going to the sensor somehow touched the EGR tube and made an intermettent ground connection to one of the wires. this COMPLETELY screwed with the sensor output, i'd be doing 75 on the highway and all of a sudden for no reason it would very rapidly go down to 20 and then go up to 140 then back and forth randomally, etc... solution? removed the EGR pipe, taped up bare wire.

#2 was when the front motor mount came loose, then broke itself, then the remaining stress transfered to the rear mount which in turn broke itself. wicked cool. when my car shook violently with just a little bit of throttle and a nice amount of gentel clutch slip, i decided to pop the hood because something was very wrong. when you don't have a front or a rear motor mount the first thing to break off is the speed sensor, seeing as how it kind of fits right between the rear mount plate. after that, everything goes to hell.
