Like some of you I have been plagued with the EGR CEL and a malfunctioning EGR transducer. I have tried to block off the egr, trick the ECU to get rid of the CEL, but I am just not happy unless my car runs right. I have lived with this for over 30,000 miles. So, I went down to the local Chrysler dealer and ordered a new egr valve with transducer for ~$130. I also used header wrap to wrap the hot egr pipe because it has the tendency to melt the very important wiring harness below it.

When I had EGR problems I could never get more than 300 miles to one tank full of gas. Now with this fixed and tested for 5000 miles or so, I can always break 400 miles on one tank....city driving... plus my highway mileage is crazy. I have nearly hit 500 miles, but I chickened out and filled her up. The EGR system may make the intake dirty, but its not that bad, plus I need the fuel economy.

So the improvement in gas mileage was due to heat wrapping the Egr pipe, or replacing the malfunctioning transducer?

I didn't like the EGR so I took that out. I didn't like the CEL either so I took that out too.

LOL, same here. I never noticed a change in mileage after I took mine out :shrug

Yeah, unless you consider a CEL code a problem. My engine runs a lot cleaner (breather tube disconnected from intake too), and I haven't noticed a change in gas milage (although I'm sure there is some because recirculating the exhaust burns any unburnt fuel).

You can get the MOPAR block off kit, or do like me and cut out a piece of 1/8" steel (w/ a acetylene torch or whatever) the shape of the egr valve, drill holes, bolt that one w/ gasket underneith to the head. Cut a soda can (I used grape soda) the size of the little pipe that connects to the intake manifold and place the little gasket under that and bolt it up.

Clean out your intake w/ throttle body cleaner or MCCC (mopar combustion chamber cleaner), and your engine will breath clean air as long as your PCV valve doesn't crap out.

Is the EGR that weird looking black thing that sticks out right by the motor on the intake pipe side? Also what is EGR? So you basically removed it and wrapped it with heat wrap, do you need to cover the hole or not? This has nothing to do with the breather valve right? Sorry if they are dumb questions.

All he did was wrap the tube which gets hot from exhause gas with header wrap. I am many others just ripped it out and blocked off the holes. I also ripped out my cel because that was annoying too.

my egr was acting weird so I took it off and cleaned it real nice with tb cleaner. and put it back on.. its been working great for the past 4 months.

Here in Arizona, we like to pull it off, pump it full of that Castrol Degreaser (in the purple bottle) then scrub it out with a pipe cleaner and wire. We really like it when the pipe cleaner comes out Richard Dean-style with a HEEEEYYAAAAAHHHH! and sprays greasy shit all over the guy holding the pipe at the time.

Mine's still on, but I'll be removing it soon enough. Other idle issues need to be resolved first. :p
