If you've tried numerous things to fixed this and ended up with the problem coming back in a few days..then its time to replace your ecu! Thats what my problem was and it cost me over 3000 bucks in the end. Granted i still have timing issue in accordance to my milled head, the hesitation has resided. Mitsu f*cked up big time with this ecu and it should be recalled.

bogging, under heavy acceleration, under light acceleration, no power, running rich, overall shitty idle..etc

Wow.....I didnt know so many people had this same situation going on. Thought it was just cause my motor was getting old and since I was going to rebuild here in a few weeks anyway, didnt really bother me. So its the ECU huh??? Time to go shopping.

how did you know it was the ECU for sure? What kind of test is there? Did the ECU cost you $3000.00 or have you spent that much trying other stuff before finding it was the ECU?

The ecu was literally the last part on the motor that i hadnt replaced. I had the car diagnosed again this past week and the mechanic said he couldnt communicate with the ecu anymore, he couldnt clear codes, and he was just having a hell of a time(it took two machines) The ecu was 65 shipped to my door, i just found a good deal.

Shit when I had this problem, I never even realized it but it was my plug wires. The scanner said there was a misfire cyl#3 I was like WTF? Changed plugs, cleaned injectors, fuel pump then went during this whole problem as did the cam sensor(fuck me!) In the end, my plug wire was screwed up.....inside the part that goes into the cylinder and connects to the top of the plug, the metal piece.....yea it wasn't making contact from when I pullled it out before.
I sit and think that DSM's are doomed but I figure it's just like any other goddamn car out there.

I wish my car wasnt turbocharged for like... 5 minutes so I could NOTICE a problem like this... lol

So your hesitation is fixed now? And your timing issue isn't because your new ECU is it? Where did you get your ECU for $65 shipped?

no, my timing issue is still there, i will be getting gears as soon as i get tax money. I can tell that my car doesnt run 100%, but after installing the ecu it runs so much better than before. So, my major problem is fixed and now im attacking the little ones. I got the ecu from a member of the board, i got very lucky.

I had a problem with hesitation/bogging in my '95. Put in some higher octane fuel and the problem went away. Now, I just pay the extra $1.50 each fill up and it's fine.

It was my wires/water and oil entering the spark plug holes what caused a problem like you described
Fixed my valvecover, changed wires and tada!!

Woah..Woah..Woah...This may be YOUR fix for the problem, but the resolution can be many things. I for one had this problem, and I have 2 ECU's...Changing the ECU didn't do anything...I still had the same problem, but pulling the engine fuse under the hood and replacing it did! Its been 2 weeks, and no hesitation. "Knock on wood" Thanks for the additional input on: "What fixes the hesitation" ...but it's been several different things that are the cause...Don't send people out buying expensive ECU's when that may not be their problem. I'm not trying to be a Dick, just putting up a bit of advice.:thumbsup

im just trying to tell you guys that its been a big thing for me, and ive talked to quite a few other people that own 95's and they ALL have this problem and have spent a nice amount of money trying to fix the problem. Im saying, 95's have the shittiest(oldest of the 420A) ecu therefore if you've tried numerous things and they havent worked..replace the ecu before you spend thousands more.

it funny that you day that. Mine has always worked perfectly, and continues to work perfectly, and will likely continue to work perfectly until i remove it from the car. Just because yours was faulty doesn't mean they are all faulty. In fact, i think the 95 ECU is the best of the whole bunch due to its lax emissions regulations adherance.

Well, I've done the whole ECU, Ignition, Wires, sensors, etc. Even went as far as getting a whole new wiring harness to rewire the car. Nothing fixed my hesitation. Then one day the car just drove like shit, even cut off on the highway and turn back on. ECU registered it as misfires and such. Again, replaced the ECU from the dealer (to eliminate the thought of used ECU's could be bad theory). Still no go. So I said one day, let me rewire the car see what that does. Still hesitant. I said oh well, let me just go ahead and remove the whole egr system so it don't melt my newly installed wires, and BOOM. Hesitation all gone and in fact the car feels a helluva lot strong in power and drives better than it ever has since I've bought it back in 95. So in short, try removing the egr. Possibly may fix that bucking cuz we all know these cars run hella rich. BTW, my car is indeed a 95 and I DO get the check engine light for the EGR, but no biggie. Rather have it on and drive smoothly than to live with the bucking. Just check the codes every so often to make sure no other codes pop up. Good Luck.

Plug the actuator back in and give it vacuum. No EGR, and no CEL.

69558, RE: Anyone with a 95 thats experiencing hesitation.... Posted by REV_GSlow, Feb-28-04 11:04 AM
i think i'll try the egr removal when i have my next day off..its always worth a try. As far as 95 being the best ecu..i disagree(no disrespect meant). I think the 97 ecu is better just based on the AFX ecu capabilities, to each his own though.

wished the 97 howell were the best...for us boosted ones it is not good cause of ignition advance...

give it vacuum to which port? The one skinny one on top of the solenoid, or do all ports have to be plugged up into vacuum? Thanks for the input.
|
69596, RE: Anyone with a 95 thats experiencing hesitation.... Posted by REV_GSlow, Feb-28-04 06:32 PM
the skinny vaccum line, the larger one connects to the egr solenoid itself...
